Same here

So did I after season 2.  Then I binged on 3 on a flight and it sucked me back in immediately.  It's extremely well-written and their interplay is revolutionary for TV.

It's not fair to compare them, I think both are excellent for different reasons and well worth your time.

BB is so much better. The storyline has so many hidden details. BCS was unwatchable. Everyone says it's better, but I watched the first 5 or so episodes and felt like I just lost 5 hours of my life that I will never get back. No way I'm going to fight through that, even if it does get better.

The walking dead started strong then became unwatchable after 5 or so seasons.

Sopranos was "watchable" at best.

I liked Chuck more than Jimmy

I very much like the doing the right thing for the wrong reasons vs doing the wrong thing for the right reasons play on the two of them.  Nothing black and white, all shades of gray

BB had me contemplating setting up a meth lab. After watching BCS I'm not contemplating setting up a murky law firm for the underworld.

Boring. Boring. Boring.

BB had me hooked like a meth junkie from the first minute of the first Episode till the very last heart wrenching finale, it excellently and accurately portrayed a desperate dying man trying to make things right for his family and descended into a portrayal of organised crime, showing not only the harm done to society as a whole but also the harm done to Walter's own morality, his family and his relationship with all those around him. A man who achieved so much but ultimately paid the price.

If you feel Sopranos is watchable at best, I don't know what to tell you.  Have you considered the possibility you just hate television?

My Wife and I just finished watching Better Call Saul after re-visiting Breaking Bad. So, after watching Breaking Bad twice and now Better Call Saul I appreciate more of the overall story. I thought both were absolutely brilliant. I rate Breaking Bad as one of the best television shows made, though.

They couldn't have made BCS any better. They absolutely knocked it out of the park. As an overall series I enjoy it more than BB only because how dark BB gets at the end. Not that that's a bad thing, but its emotionally draining to a point.

BB for me. Agree with the assessment that BCS moved too slowly.

I’m watching BCS right now. I like it. BB probably the better series, but agree that BCS is lighter and an easier watch.

Saul is an interesting character because despite liking him, I never worry about him - through the highs and lows. Whereas in BB, I found myself wanting good things to happen to Walt and Jesse and being bummed when they hit a roadblock. Says something about how well they struck the Saul character.

have not seen either yet (watched an episode or two of BB when it first came out, late night tv here, but i never got into it - don't recall why but suspect i was just knackered). i have BB on disc and am keen to give it a proper go.

It would be interesting for someone who hadn't seen either to watch BCS first and then BB, but I guess BCS would give away a lot of BB so that probably wouldn't be a great idea.

Both are great shows, with superb story and acting, but BCS is certainly more of a slow burn.

Took me a few tries to get into BB, I think E2 or E3, and then it happened like for many...Totally hooked. BCS was a great show too, and I also enjoyed the slower pace and more in depth character build up. If I'm on YouTube, their channels post very regular bits and pieces from the show, I tend to enjoy re-watching parts BCS more for some reason.

Agree with the dark aspects of BB as posted above.

My son and I talk about these shows all the time. It took a few shows of BCS to integrate the stories and characters from BB, which then developed and blossomed very well over the ensuing seasons. The brother served to warn us that Saul wasn't a great guy despite what we thought we were seeing on screen. When he died the remaining characters saw more of the real Saul laid bare. My son prefers BCS, I'm on the fence - I love them both.

Walter running out of the camper in underpants and a rubber apron, the relationship between Walter and his wife, Jesse calling him Mr. White all the time - all brilliant.

Time for a rewatch!

Breaking Bad is great. Haven't been into BCS. I prefer the Wire to both.

Cool to see this thread dug up again after BCS has finished its run.

I see BCS as the Godfather 2 to BB’s Godfather 1. The first instalment of each is more iconic, more thrilling, reaches the highest highs. The second instalment has richer characters, more complexity in its story, and a touch more refined as a production.

Which is “better”? Gun to my head I’d say BCS, but in terms of which one I personally prefer it changes with my mood.
