Yep....that's Smithy's shoes. 

It was at Artie's daughters wedding Saturday.  He went to the bathroom and came out screaming. OK he was more than halfway through a bottle of Scotch (+ beers + wine). 

"Rob! Rob! What Mother F****R would do this! OMG!!! LOOK! LOOK!"

The tiler is a genius. the natural enemy of the OCD possessed.

I've done tours of a few sites in Spain built by Moors or in the Moorish style. The Alhambra in Granada and the Alcazar in Seville (The castle in Dorne from Game of Thrones)

Both of those places have a lot of geometric tiling, like many Islamic buildings. I was told that the artists would always put little mistakes in their work as "Only God is Perfect".

It's sometimes called a "Persian Flaw". I'm not an expert on Islamic art so I don't really know if this is true or anecdotal. It's a nice story either way.

However, in the case above, the reason might be a little more mundane!

The plus sign is a very masterful accent.  What bothers me is the chipped tile to the upper left of the plus sign.  Again, I've restored some fancy houses and that accent is a stroke of utter genius!

Agree.  The chipped tile is an issue.  The flourish is ingenious.

I am pleased that there are other members out there who also find that bloody tile annoying.  As much as Rob makes out he was cool with it, it also bugged him.  

 

Apart from that the wedding was great, stole a bottle of scotch and feel asleep in the front yard after attempting to kill a bird in a tree.  Great Night!!

Awesome.  Since these mosaic tiles come pre-arranged over a mesh backing, that little outlier must have been replacement at some point.  White is universally easier to source than black.

@planetary has the fix.

I saw it right away.   I have OCD for locking doors for some reason.   I have to check them a couple times to make sure I locked them.   I have a decent attention to detail so stuff like the wrong color tile stands out to me.
