All This Ring Gauge Talk.......

Recommended Posts

Soooooo......with all this ring gauge talk, I though I would take a look at what is currently in my collection and break it down into percentages as to what I'm smoking/collecting for ring gauges. What am I actually doing with my collection? Good to check in on now and again. Here is how my cigar collection breaks down, simply # of sticks of a certain ring gauge/overall number of cigars in collection.

42 - 19.65%

43 - 1.72%

44 - 2.38%

47 - 8.16%

48 - 13.00%

49 - 2.80%

50 - 16.26%

52 - 19.32%

54 - 12.58%

55 - 4.13%

I thought I had some 40 RGs but I do not, 42 is the lowest RG in my collection.  Interesting to take a look at, also good for inventory purposes.

I know in the past we've had the what do you prefer threads and why, but I though it might be fun to see breakdowns of what's in others' collections.

Ok here we go!

Under 50 RG controls 30.2% of the population; 50+ RG = 69.8%

Total count: 3,131

VIPs:

40 RG- 6.6%

42 RG- 18.2%

48 RG- 8.6%

49 RG- 14.2%

50 RG- 13%

52 RG- 9.3%

54 RG- 5.4%

Total % of top 7 - 75.3%

Included RGs- 30, 32, 33, 38, 40, 42, 43, 44, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 52, 54, 55, 56, 57

Interestingly, 50 and over contains only 6 RGs, whereas under 50 includes 12 different RGs. I knew that I had a majority of 50+, but I honestly had no idea it was near 70% of my total. I was thinking I was about 50/50. Yikes

Have you ever posted pics of your collection?

Nope, and a good portion is in my online humidor here. I'm working overseas currently. I've trained my dad to take care of my stock though. In return, I'll recommend sticks to smoke, but he does so sparingly. All in good time sir! Permanent move back stateside will be sometime in 2019.

I keep records of everything in spreadsheet form and update as needed.

I wish I could find the dude on here that has the most massive personal collection I've ever seen photographed. Think bunkers and warehouse FULL. Boxes, cabs, jars, books, humidors, rare, vintage, etc. and 1000x of everything. Can't recall his username, but he was from somewhere in Europe...

I'll play.  Some of the totals listed here include some approximations, but they're close enough for the purpose of the exercise.

Ring Gauge  -  Total Count  -  Percentage

30  -  25  -  2.46%
32  -  20  -  1.96%
33  -  25  -  2.46%
36  -  25  -  2.46%
38  -  25  -  2.46%
40  -  99  -  9.72%
42  -  275  -  27.01%
43  -  25  -  2.46%
46  -  55  -  5.40%
47  -  88  -  8.64%
48  -  23  -  2.26%
49  -  116  -  11.39%
50  -  140  -  13.75%
52  -  35  -  3.44%
55  -  8  -  0.79%
56  -  28  -  2.75%
58  -  6  -  0.59%

Ok I'll play too. Here's mine, boxes only, not including singles ...

33 - 4.7%

38 - 4.7%

42 - 35.5%

43 - 4.7%

46 - 12.3%

47 - 4.7%

49 - 4.7%

50 - 12.8%

52 - 14%

54 - 1.9%

71.3% below 50g. Definitely more 42g than anything else. 52g is only where it is at because of piramides.

HSA has really pushed a lot of good sticks into the 52 RG. Not being a large RG fan I'm surprised how I've adapted to 52. I'm OK with it, but it's my upper limit. At 53 I start to notice it.

With Piramides and Campanas also technically at 52 and cigars like the Connie A, Edmundos, HURR and PSE2 all at 52 I'm surprised 52 is as far behind as it is in the above humidors.

I think I remember the person everyone is referring to. In his pics he had a bunch of those Zarges cases full of boxes?

Ok so it wasn't on this forum, but another. Let me see if I can find it again. I only frequent these forums now. All the others didn't live up to any kind of standard.
