just arrived at the airport and was poking around duty free. usually grab a bottle or two of something - often just fall back on the old faves like 21 appleton or zacapa xo (but i figure i have more of that sitting at the bottom of the cupboard than this place has), or sometimes go for something weird and wonderful.

checked out the japanese whiskies as there really is a shortage. they got in a new shipment of yamakazi 12, the first they have had in ages. and it was heading out the door asap. so grabbed two of them. and a bottle of the ardbeg  corryvreckan. i do like the peat!

checked the site for dan's, for aussie members interested, and they currently have the yamakazi but customers limited to three bottles. at $250 each, and this will be the best non duty free price i reckon you'll get. but it is just under $100 more than at the airport. they had some special for those buying but leaving at the airport to collect on the way home.

It was everywhere in Virginia a few months ago, for $79 a bottle. I'm still kicking myself for not getting at least one to try. Is it any good??

yes, very good i think.

even the prices i mentioned are way way up on recent history. the shortages are biting. these prices are to discourage buying, to an extent.

You mean the 12 year old single malt? Come in a pale yellow package? I bought a bottle of it a few months back from my local store, and it's down to the last dram, not bad stuff at all, a tad on the "light" side, still good though...

I picked up 3 bottles at a grocery store up near Kern River in CA for $80 each about a year ago... Wishing I bought more as those bottles are now gone and I've only seen them at $350 recently WHEN I could find it ?

Even the Corryvreckan is nowhere to be found around me now.  I've come to the conclusion I might as well stick to the single cask stuff because every time I like an expression it's gone by the time I need to restock.

$219 at Dan's in Victoria plus 6.50 delivery. Couldn't help myself. Just ordered one online.

Not sure it’s worth that......

It's funny how human psychology works--I've had plenty of The Yamazaki 12 and I don't think it's anything special, but if I found it for some absurd price I would probably still buy it.?

It’s not, IMO. Good stuff but you can just buy the original (Macallan 12) for half the price of the copy.

Haha... I know exactly what you mean, and I agree that it's nothing special. It's good but it didn't blow me away.
