Seems like $400 would more like what this book should sell for.  I think I have 2nd edition (is there such a thing)?

This thread finally prompted me to go rummaging through the attic to find my copy.  It took me about 1/2 hour to find it, but there it was in a box with some other old cigar books....that are nowhere

Nope..... ? All ready to go. But I can understand his reasons for not printing it yet. The end of an Era ( Embargo/Revolution ) is not here yet. Patience  ....

I still have my copy I don’t care that it is largely irrelevant due to the large number of deletions ,to me it is the OPUS and as a printer it is a permanent record of a slice of history  and the

Supply and demand ....

No, there was no such thing -  there were 2 printings of the First edition.

The second edition is not out yet.

@nino, thanks - but how on earth does 1 volume expand to 5 or more volumes as I see in the pics on your blog simply by including cigars from 2002-2018?

All I can say is that MRN is the most methodical and painstakingly professional historian on Cuban cigars and history.

He has a huge mass of valuable information that he likes to add to the second edition plus all the life-size professional photographs..

Maybe this blog post helps :

Oh man. I really wish I hadn't read this post. I had no idea such a complete compilation for habanos existed. I will be looking for them now. So the first edition is just the one book then? and then second edition is the compilation of all 5 volumes?

We've got a better chance of seeing the next book in the Song of fire and ice series from George R.R. Martin.

If he's waiting for the embargo to be lifted then he's never going to be publishing that book. Not with these donkey for politicians.

How does one even get on the list for the 2nd edition?

I don't think one does... yet.

I've been (not so patiently) awaiting the 2nd edition for close to a decade now.

I’d be willing to offer up my copy for a cross country trip in the US if there is interest

Say.....

Start a thread in the US section and just let it pass from person to person for 1 week at a time

You would need to be a member in good standing of course

Let me know if interested and I’ll start the thread

You can thank those politicians for keeping the embargo in place. It benefits you, me, and all of us in the USA as far as Cuban cigars go. If lifted, cigar quality would decline greatly and you would pay out the ass for cigars as ol' Uncle Sam would take a royal tax bite out of our rear ends. Just ask our mates in Australia or Canada what taxes on Cuban cigars are like!

The 1st edition was published in January, 2003.  There was a 2nd reprint of the 1st edition (with correction on errors in the first printing) that was published in July, 2005.

*I obtained his book in a group buy too sometime in 2004 or so. Paid $60 for it.

I agree 100%. I don't want it lifted. Sometimes there's an advantage to our politicians being donkeys.

without venturing into politics, you guys do realise how much hurt the embargo has caused to the cuban people?

not really sure cheaper cigars is a fair trade off. but it does not look like being lifted any time soon so all moot.

With all due respect, the Cuban government does not seem to want the embargo lifted at all, and the top of the food chain seems to live like royalty. There is a great divide between upper class and lower class. They have a lot of work to do to fix things internally and I think if the embargo was lifted, it wouldn't change. At least not for a very long time. They need to want to help their own people. For a country that has one export that brings in a 1/2 billion alone in revenue per year, I think they should be doing better. Corruption needs to go

the cuban govt is quite happy to have it. allows them to blame the states. allows the military/top of the food chain if you like to control everything and live like royalty as you say. helps keep them in power.

but the best way to change this, to start to get rid of corruption, is to get rid of this utterly iniquitous embargo. it is a disgrace that it is maintained. not as though the cuban govt can remove it. up to the US govt.

it would make massive differences to the people, very quickly. some good and some bad. but until that goes, nothing will change. it has allowed the govt to repress its people for more than half a century.

apols, i can't take this further. about to jump on planes for the next 36 hours.

Thanks for this information. I just checked and I appear to have a copy of the 2nd reprint. I believe I purchased this from Rob for $150 AUD maybe 6-7 years ago. I must say I don't often use it as a reference guide at all but sometimes I'll just flick through the pages and take in the quality of the work. I will be right in line with everyone else when the next edition comes out!!!

Correction: it is not irrelevant, just not current. :P

To be honest, I find it is still relevant. Unless the information in it has been proven wrong with the passing of time, for the info inside is still correct for its time. Any book that is printed will be out of date, as new info is always coming in. Even the 2nd Ed will be dated, as there has to be a cut off date for information.

I too see it as a piece of history, and a gorgeous one at that.

Actually the man's plan is to continue providing additional content as time goes on. One of the books is designed for additional pages as they are released.

Hope to this published and distributed in my lifetime!

But the info will still be dated, regardless! :P There will always be a period of outdatedness. Only digital can be somewhat kept up to date.

But having the ability to add pages is a novel idea. Personally, I'd rather see something like an annual addendum or expansion set, that covers LE, RE, new releases and deletions.

I posted the other day about possibly selling my copy in the future.( in another thread) There are other sites than ebay for all things Cuban. Mainly Social media groups. From memory this book has been put into several forms of sale. (Outright asking sales price, lottery format)
From what I recall it’s hit 700 usd plus. There have been some varying sale prices..... Even a guy like me who paid 180 USD in 2010. That’s a pretty solid return if I chose to list it now. I’m not ready to let it go yet.
