hoyopr Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 B&M is not really a strong looking retail model these days.
cigarsdelcuba Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 Official Habanos distributor in Ukraine is Phoenicia Trading. They already operate an LCDH in Kiev. LCDH are very hard to operate and are all usually own/operated by distributors of Habanos as way to be on the good side of Habanos executives etc.

With the owners / shops of which having a longer track record in the business before being appointed resp. given franchise as HS or LCDH. HSA is not particularly waiting for you guys when you are new to the field (should that be the case). If you don't have a cigar-biz background, or don't have at least a longer - successful - history in retail (of a similar demanding product range) - I wish you luck! Having cigars as a hobby is one thing - making a living from it as a merchant is a whole different story. I guess here are some members on the forum who'll be able to add their very personal perspective on that. Agreed - There is the true story of a guy who thought opening a LCDH would fullfill his hobby in cigars. Although it was located in the Frankfurt financial district, the golden mile, It became the most short-lived LCDH ever ... under a year from opening to bust as he had no money reserves. Sad story....

Sad story.... Oh, that happened? I am pretty sure I know who that is. Got a deal on some PL German Robustos from him. That sucks. I can't imagine most LCDH's are money makers.
Derboesekoenig Posted August 1, 2018 Author Posted August 1, 2018 I know about the LCDH in Kiev. I was not looking at Kiev for opening anything--I was looking elsewhere. It looks like opening a small independent shop is the best way to go. Maybe something like a members lounge + coffee roaster/cafe

The guy offered Quintero Brevas on opening night - he never had any reasonable stock, much less anything ER or EL .... In the end he tried to make some money having sex parties in the LCDH after hours .... didn't work either 2

But wrong country, no other country than Germany has more sex parties in the back of shops after hours.???

filltang Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Couldn't sleep... thought I'd peruse the internet to learn about the history of CCs, Cubatabaco, HSA, etc... stumbled across this: In addition, Habanos oversees all the La Casas del Habano in the world; there are currently 142 Casas del Habano, including 17 in Cuba. "From the beginning in 1990 in Cancún, we wanted them to always have the best selection of Havana cigars, to guarantee their origin, and to provide the best information about them and then to have a place to relax and smoke them," says Jiménez Sánchez-Cañete. "They are now recognized by the consumer, and we are going to continue to extend the franchise. Our goal is a Casa del Habano in every major city in the world." The Cubans are adamant about maintaining the standards in Casas del Habano, and don't just automatically rubberstamp a franchisee's deal in perpetuity. "We opened 12 Casas last year," says López, "but we closed eight," because they didn't fulfill the obligations required of all franchise owners. According to Lopez, Habanos has also issued new rules, some of which are mandatory, while others are just suggestions. Among these rules are that a Casa del Habano must be at least 60 square meters (645 square feet), although duty-free shops can be smaller, they can only sell Habanos products, that they have an ample walk-in humidor with lockers for loyal customers and a smoking lounge area that, if possible, should also have a bar. "We are simply demanding a minimum level of quality," López says. The pessimist in me wonders if the Cuban government uses a "loose interpretation" of the "obligations required of all owners" whenever it suits them best. I'm sure I'm just being an ignoramus, though. Source: https://www.cigaraficionado.com/article/habanos-today-15887

That store cannot be up to LCDH standards.

Horrible decor, small selection of cigars, no place to smoke them, and doesn't look like a LCDH. Not to mention the owner is kind of a douche... I know I am not alone on this.
Hookmaker Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Ha, the two LCDH’s in Sofia, Bulgaria are then only trinket shops - not at all and ever near the Habanos standardSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
