Napa valley is beautiful in October and by Halloween, the harvest is over and the rates drop significantly.  As an alternative to San Francisco, that would be my suggestion.

If you have not been to New Orleans before, it will be an eye opener. I was a bit taken aback by the number of strip clubs that have replaced many of the old bars that were once popular on Bourbon Street. It was very seedy.

Hardly anything shocks me. One of my first jobs out of high school was as a "Purveyor of Perversion". :rotfl:It has been a long time since I've been to New Orleans (15+ years).

Probably won’t cross paths. We’re in Fort Myers 1st week in Oct. then MN until November 10. See you in Havana.

If you run into troubles or need anything don’t hesitate.

Next time plan on MN.

MN is on the cards for my next US trip to the northern states. See you and Dana in Havana!!

I’ll make ya a mean mai tai if you stop in Hawaii on the way.

Unfortunately, my stopover is in Auckland. Hawaii is another place I haven't been to in ages. So many places to see, so many people to meet, yet so little time!!

I had considered San Diego, but Comic-Con is over!

Highly recommend you hit Yosemite if at all possible. The crowds thin a little bit in September and should be fully in check by October.

You can see tons of amazing sights from the car, and it’s truly a wonder of the natural world...

You will love it in San Fran in October. My second fave city in the US next to Chicago.
Have a wonderful trip and post your photos.

Need to get to San Fran, haven’t been there since I was a kid. Current second favorite city to Chicago right now is Boston.

Feel free to hit me up when you are in Los Angeles. You can be my guest at the Lone Wolf on Wilshire if you are planning to stay on the west side.

Your West Coast trip sounds like a great idea. Fall in California is the best time of year! I know several members in Nor Cal that would head to SF to have dinner and some drinks...with a cigar of course. Head west young man!

Well, I've finally confirmed the dates on where I'll be (yeah, I tend to leave things to the last minute). Here's where I'll be on which dates:

LA - Sat 20th to Mon 22nd

Monterey - Mon 22nd to Tue 23rd

SF - Tue 23rd to Sat 27th (will be driving through Yosemite on my way to LV)

LV - Sun 28th to Mon 29th

New Orleans - Mon 29th to Fri 2nd

Tampa - Fri 2nd to Mon 5th (Fri night is already booked to see a friend)

Miami - Mon 5th to Thur 8th

Then I fly out to Cuba in the wee hours of Friday morning. My schedule is a little tight, mainly because I try to cram everything in.

If anyone is free for drinks and smokes on those date above, would be great to meet up.

Fuzz, try the Ugly Dog Saloon in New Orleans if you like good BBQ. Cheap and delicious. Well, I hope it's still the same quality. One of the best meals I've ever had, but that was many years ago. Seems to be still getting good reviews on Trip Advisor. Very close to the WWII museum as well, which is worth a visit.

Regardless, have a great trip! : )

Darn - I’ll be in Boston while you’re in SF. Flying out on that Monday. Sorry to miss you.

Thanks, Steve. Will look it up both places. I like to see historical sites.

check that the pass is open to go over while in yosemite. they have already received snow and if tioga pass closes then  you have to circle back around the long way to get to vegas. as you drive by mammoth lakes stop in to robertos, a local mexican place. it does great food. eat upstairs in the bar. you'll be hard pressed for a better view on your trip.

have a great trip

Well, I'm on my way!

Kinda regretting the 3hr stopover in Auckland. There's nothing to do at the airport, and the free wifi is only for 45min!!!

LA, here I come!!

Met up with Hiran @sikfrayme yesterday.

Thanks for a great time, mate! It was great catching up for smokes, drinks and meeting a few of your friends. And that Mexican joint Salsa & Beer was fantastic.

Look forward to catching up in the future.

Thanks to Brian @bpm32 for taking me to the historic Del Monte Hotel, now part of the Navy Postgraduate School (renamed Hermann Hall). Was a great night! Hope you enjoy the Quay d'Orsay Corona '06 and Punch Punch '13.

How was Yosemite?

Very nice... if it weren't for all the tourists.

Got very lucky and managed to score a parking space at Tunnel View, the moment I arrived. There are some burnt out areas further down the road from Tunnel View, on the way down towards Fresno/Wawona.

Just landed in the Big Easy. Thank the Maker the Westin in Canal Place knows the 2 key things about a hotel. I don't care that there is a gym, business centre, kids playground, fantastic bar or any of the crap. The 2 key things are: a comfortable bed, and a good shower! What is with US hotels that put in a crappy shower head (and I'm not talking about cheap hotels, yes I'm looking at you DoubleTree by Hilton and Sheraton!) that sprays in 30 different directions, but not onto to you, or has such poor flow, you might as well grab a bucket?!

A good shower is vital in restoring you back to sanity, after having an extremely crappy flight.
