I'll be heading to the USA again in October, before heading over to Cuba. Not sure where I want to go on this trip, and would like a few suggestions.

Only firm dates at the moment are: landing in LA on 20th Oct, and flying out of Miami on 9th November. Will probably hit Tampa for a day or two, to catch up with a friend, before going to Miami.

Been thinking of spending a few days in LA, drive up to SF for a few days, then a scenic drive (2 days) to LV for two days (I can only take LV in small doses :D), then I thought of going to New Orleans. Besides that, I really have no clue. Besides my trip 2 years ago (LA, LV, Dallas, Tampa, Miami), it has been a long time since I've traveled extensively in the US. So many places to see again, and I can't make up my mind.

Not planning on heading to any northern states, mainly as I don't want to be packing any cold weather gear (need space for custom cigars to bring home!) . Will need to plan a northern states trip one of these days.

Of course, will definitely like to catch up with any US members for some cigars, drinks, and good times.

Thanks guys for the Monterey Bay tip. Will put it on the list. Hardly anything shocks me. One of my first jobs out of high school was as a "Purveyor of Perversion". It has been a long time sin

.....they work well for normal sized people

I had considered San Diego, but Comic-Con is over!

If timing works we may cross paths in Tampa. See you in Havana at any rate!

Given your plans, San Diego might work as a trip out of LA before heading west. I went there for the second time on my trip this year; great Mexican food and a top-shelf beer scene. Also, just a very nice spot. I'd definitely recommend a wee visit.

Regardless, enjoy the trip!

Northern states are not that cold in October  With fall coming and leaves changing, the north is probably a lot prettier place to be.  Though I doubt you are coming for nature viewing.

Good thread as I'm planning for Summer next year with my son who is 10 years old.

Would love to know some great sights to see in LA, New York etc

Sadly I will be deep in the Mekong when you're in SF.  If you can hit SF on the way back I can be there and show you around.  Otherwise, if you're driving up on the 20th of October I'd recommend an stop/overnight in Monterey Bay.  Stay on Cannery Row if you can.  There's many more places worth visiting as well on the Route 1 path, but it will turn your 8 hour drive into 8 days. :cigar:

I've always wanted to go to Portland and Seattle, as I have never had the chance to previously. One day I will have to make my way eastward from Seattle to New York.

Unfortunately, I will be flying back to Aus on the 18th right after Cuba. Probably drive up 22nd or 23rd Oct and spend a few days in SF.

Long drive for sure, but pretty.  Much better than the 10 freeway from LA-Vegas-Florida.  Flat, hot and boring as heck.  Done that drive many times.

PM me when you know your details of the stay in/near San Francisco. I live very close to Santa Cruz which is a cool spot to visit.

Be sure to be in a big city for the Halloween crawl and get your Murican freak on... looks like 10/26-10/28 weekend for many of the festivities.

Was in LV for Halloween 2 year ago. That was an eye-opener. :surprised:

That's near me as well--Monterey's great.

Regarding the Monterey Bay Aquarium--I finally actually made it in there. The staff gives you weird looks when you ask how some of those critters taste.....

If you're heading to New Orleans from Las Vegas, Santa Fe, Austin and San Antonio are all great stops with plenty to do, eat, drink and see. Great time of year for all three.

Doubt you'll make it to Arkansas, but if you do, I'll dig deep in my humidor for something fitting!

Napa valley is beautiful in October and by Halloween, the harvest is over and the rates drop significantly.  As an alternative to San Francisco, that would be my suggestion.

If you have not been to New Orleans before, it will be an eye opener. I was a bit taken aback by the number of strip clubs that have replaced many of the old bars that were once popular on Bourbon Street. It was very seedy.

Probably won’t cross paths. We’re in Fort Myers 1st week in Oct. then MN until November 10. See you in Havana.

If you run into troubles or need anything don’t hesitate.

Next time plan on MN.

I'm two hours from New Orleans, and there are a few members here in my area and in the New Orleans area or close.  Depending on timing I would be up for a get together when you land in the Big Easy.

Please adopt me.  I'll be a good son, I promise.  I can carry luggage, light cigars, hail taxi's, drive, and cover tips.
