one of those late night never-ending debates with no right or wrong.

you've been sent to the proverbial desert island. you are allowed three cigars, but they must fit the three categories.

1. what is your value selection? doesn't have to be cheapest, just the smoke you think gives you the very best value.

2. what is your everyday cigar? the one you'd be happy if it was the all occasions, everyday cigar for you.

3. the special occasion cigar. something really absolutely brilliant. you'll only smoke it very occasionally but it stands out as your star.

personally, probably PLPC, Partagas D4 and very hard to think of the final one. perhaps the tang upmann monarchs from 2002 or one of the wonderful hamlets, or if it needs to be a commercially available smoke, which is probably only fair, talisman or those wonderful cohiba LEs from 03 and/or 04 - DCs and sublimes.

Aged?  Just one of each?  Would be hard to be talking to Wilson while I wait for them to sit 90 days .... 6 months ... a year .... 5 ....

Oh, and

1. HUpmann Half Corona

2. Monte 4

3. Partagas Lusitania

1. Vegueros Tapados

2. Partagas SD4, or maybe a Ramon Allones SS

3. Ramon Alones 898.  If we are talking current production, Partagas 898.

you get unlimited of each (well, perhaps less of the special) but only three cigars.

Posted

1. PLP or RG Perla

2. SLR Serie A if they were still readily available, or RASS

3. Trinidad Robusto Extra, once again if they were still around.  That or CCE, my favorite of the Cohiba line

I think my 3 are identical to yours Ken, but I’ll have to just trust you on the Tang Monarch because I can’t seem to wrestle one loose from anyone who actually has some.  I’ve had a few Hamlets so if I am relegated to them as my “special” Island stay cigar I won’t complain too much.

the last Tang i had was bizarre. only a few left and i had taken one of those last few remaining gems (and may i say, good luck in chasing them - or do something easier like steal the crown jewels) back home to enjoy on a special occasion. completely forgot. must have been near a year later, i was fiddling about in the home humidor looking for a simple cigar for a smoke one evening. one i would not have to think about. came across something i didn't recognise. this will do.

lit up and whacko. i could not believe it. glorious. could not think what on earth it was. spent ages in MRN's book and others trying to identify it but i just could not quite nail it. then the penny dropped. no wonder it was so good.

1. Sir Winston: I know I’ll get dinged for saying this but I find that the pleasure/dollar ratio of SW is tough to beat.

2. Cohiba Corona Especiales: perfect size for me these days as an all around.

3. Siglo VI GR: I smoke these very very occasionally. Like three times in life occasionally.

If we are choosing from current regular production.

Value: Rass

Everyday: MC#1

Special: COLA

Cohiba or Monte Sublimes could work as special cigars if we use REs and ELs.
