Yes, the room is 100% sealed and the large fan works as a fresh air exchanger.  The fresh air, coming in from the outside, passes over my heater coils, which can be on or off, depending on outdoor temp.  The air is then "conditooned" or warmed. if needed.

Sorry just trying to get a clear picture.  So the large exhaust fan is connected to one duct which splits to the room to pull smoke and outside to pull fresh air?  Or do you use a separate fan ("squirrel cage vent fan") to pull in fresh air?

Because the room is sealed, if you pull out air, new air will replace it through the fresh air vent (no vent/fan needed on that return duct).  If the fresh air vent was sealed, the room would presurize like an airplane.  So, yes, the room has 2 ducts that suck out the smokey air, and the fresh air duct replaces that air through a completely seperate duct that gets warmed as the air comes in from the outside... how it  works is just simple physics.  If someone is outside blowing smoke into the clean air duct, or my neighbor is burning leaves, that bad air will enter through the fresh air duct (it has never happened though).

I remember one huge rule of thumb by most guys with a smoking lounge.... NO CARPET!  Carpet is the easiest way to keep a lounge smelling like cigar smoke.  Plus its a nasty place to store ashes and other things that can cause odors.  If you can hardwood flooring and leather furniture are a must to keep odor absorbing materials at a min.

Thanks so much for replying!  Makes perfect sense now and is exactly what I was looking for.  Now to convince the wife?
