Subcomandante
Saturday went to the San Diego Safari Park. Walked around the Australian Walkabout exhibit and looked for my cigars. Sunday went to see Public Enemy perform a short set in Los Angeles.
Popular Post Fuzz
Was up in Brissy the other week. hanging out with Rob and Di. Over drinks and a cigar, talk turned to the last Havanathon back 2017, and Di mentioned 2 photos that were taken at the end of the night. While we may never have another party like Havanathon again (thanks insurance companies ), at least we still have Rob. 4

Wow those photos bring back great memories....I was watching Rob very carefully at the end of that night and the smile on his face was just magic given what he was going through (health wise ) at the time Thanks Fuzz. I can still hear everyone singing Thunderstruck at the top of their lungs

Popular Post Str8BlkCoffee
I am all alone since my family is 38 hours away. Enjoying chicken Bulgogi, cheese Buldak, roasted rice green tea, homemade Kochi, and a Juan Lopez #2. Kuwait is locked down, all flights in and out cancelled. People discouraged from congregating. It is a lonely place right now. ? Food and cigars keep me happy ? And this place too ?

Popular Post David88
Egypt is currently being battered with a storm and we have had about 40 hours of rain and high winds. The first photo is not mine but was taken this weekend (so I thought it may be worth a share) the second photo is from a midday dust/thunder storm on Thursday. Many people are without power and water at the moment, so I’m quite lucky but I’ve been stuck inside, working hard to keep my apartment from flooding since Thursday. Fingers crossed, it’s due to end tomorrow and I can get out for a cigar to celebrate

I was at it myself for around half a day non-stop with toweling and the drier to prevent flooding downstairs. Then the next day a tree fell on the power lines outside in the early hours of the morning and around 20 of my neighbours (and my family) were without power for 5 days. Hang in there, I know how you feel. ? ?

Popular Post Deeg
Punch 898, a wonderful well-aged Japanese whisky (it just doesn't seem worth hoarding sealed bottles right now - open it and enjoy it) and some Mozart. The Magic Flute has been my refuge as the anxiety of the times have overwhelmed in the past few days.
Popular Post SirVantes
Drink 1 was one from my small stash of wines that are as old as I am - Fontanafredda Barolo La Rosa 1971. I’ve been keeping these back for the Big Five Oh, but El Prez has reminded me that that there’s no guarantee that either I or the wine will get there, or be any good by the time we do. So out comes the cork. For the record - still alive, baby. Food was just simple grilled beef skewers, cunningly spiked with white truffle oil. But nothing worth photographing. Drink 2 was Talisker 25, pound for pound one of the best official bottlings of single malt scotch you can buy, in today’s inflated market. Cigar was my next-to-last Cohiba Sublime. I pronounce myself sufficiently distracted from current affairs. 8 1

Popular Post Meklown
Very classy from all at FOH. A good reminder for us to stop and smell the roses. I've gotten into buying and hoarding whisky (Scotch, mainly) in recent years to be drunk at a later date during some special occasion. And why shouldn't the special occasion be today? Got together with my old man to have a smoke. His was a mag50, I had a sir Winston. Did not take detailed notes but the coffee, cream, nuts went very well with the classic Speyside notes of apples, pears, honey from the Linkwood
Popular Post zigarrenziggy
I had my first Cuban cigar when I was 18; a Partagas Serie D No 4 that was recommended to me by a shop owner just across the US border in Niagara Falls. I smoked my second tonight. I grew up learning to enjoy cigar smoking with a friend, navigating the waters of this hobby together as we scraped what money we had to buy the best that we could. We are slightly older now, although hardly enough to be considered old; we still have much to learn about life and cigars. We have both grown and gone our separate ways through life, taking the paths presented to us, however different they may be. We still keep in touch like old friends do. As I discovered this community and the ability to purchase Cuban cigars when previously they were seen as a sort of "Holy Grail" in our quest for acquisition of luxury, all I could think of was enjoying one with my friend, as we had so many times before. I selected a few in a size that I know he'd enjoy, a Corona Gorda, and sent them to him in the middle of January. Today was his birthday. So in celebration and in homage to times gone by, we FaceTime'd and enjoyed the experience of smoking a cigar, albeit this time a Cuban. In times uncertain, like we face today with this new virus and new world in which we live, a cigar and an old friend is familiar and acts as an anchor. It brings solace and normalcy and just plain enjoyment, when sometimes that's really all that we need. I hope that everyone stays healthy, and happy smoking.

The nose did not disappoint - it had the triumvirate of tar, roses and slight shiitake. On the palate, the fruit still had something to say after all these years, though it took an hour to find its balance, and then faded quite quickly, which was not unexpected for La Rosa. I have a couple of '71 La Villas and Lazzaritos - may have to crack one soon while the impressions of this one are still fresh.

Popular Post Bri Fi
Good news with some bad. Had a wonderful week in Tahoe (except losing lots of money). Came back home and the backyard is almost done with the re-landscape. Amazing drinks, amazing cigars, and amazing company. Back to work and I’m in the thick of the corona bs. Only remedy is to smoke more cigars and drink more wine.
