Popular Post Bill Hayes
In Melbourne we have several Springs - Early fake Spring, Antarctic wind Spring, Pretend Spring, Wet Spring, Windy Spring and Spring Spring. Last week we were in Pretend Spring - 9 sunny days in a row. Hell, the roses haven't even started to bloom yet. Only the big squid have come into the bay and way too early for snapper season. Footy finals and sunny weather screams beer and cigars. Broke out the Nudies Lanceros 2023 again and they seemed to have evolved again. I chose two juicy ones to try and found them to be fuller and richer in flavour than earlier tastings. A far more pronounced sweetness that is a touch fruity caramel in the middle third mostly. I now feel maybe a Sauternes would be a good match or a tokay, although I found the best match was German Wheat Beer, especially Heffewizen style. It has a fruit note that complements the sweetness IMHO. Cheers. PS. I was pretty proud of my Concorde impersonation.
Popular Post Fireball
Saw Duran Duran in concert in Detroit. I was not really into them, but my wife loved it. The pic is of the opener Niles Rodgers- mainly because it’s a cool picture, but he has authored songs for tons of people. I never knew.

I am big Duran Duran & Chic fan. Did Grace Jones also play? Wife dropped the ball on buying tickets this time around 😞

But lots of fun.
Popular Post GVan
Rented a place in Cape Coral by Fort Meyers, FL last weekend. Just a get together with friends from a long ago donation at a charity auction. Hurricane Idalia made us delay the rental for over a year past our planned visit. Wow - many areas are still in big time recovery mode. On Sanibel Island the vegetation was still making a come back from being stripped of all leaves during the hurricane. In Fort Meyer, one out of every fourth roof was still draped in Blue tarps awaiting repair. We heard from the locals that there is still many a house with the drywall stripped 3' to 6' up the wall awaiting repairs or new buyers. Roads fine, restaurants and tourist attractions open and wanting the business. As many of you have read - the big deal here in Florida is now getting insurance in a community anywhere near the water. Gulf was beautiful - fishing was ok, we came back with 20+ yellow-tail snapper for an awesome dinner that night. My brother-in-law just turned 60 so we made him catch an approx. 45# Goliath Grouper that was chasing away the snapper. He loved it and said it was the biggest fish he ever caught though his arms were shaking!
