On a break while loading in Panic! At The Disco the other morning at the arena in San Jose. 17 trucks worth of lights, video, sound, stage, and other miscellany. Sound, lights and video get assembled and flown in place while the stage is being built on the other side of the arena and eventually rolled in place under all the other stuff.

I love watching people put together all of the stage and lighting and of course the musical equipment... Even better are the guys n gals who hang from the beams adjusting it all in the air

These big tours have everything all mapped during rehearsals...Hang points for lighting truss, PA hangs, automated elements, and video walls are mapped out and marked on the floor of the arena where guys on the ground prep the chain motors and steel for the riggers up in the girders to haul up and secure. Everything comes off the trucks in a certain order and is packed to set up and strike quickly. For this particular show, it took the road crew and about 90 stagehands 6 hours to put it all together and for the strike at the end of the night, about 120 stagehands and 3 hours to take it all down and put it back in the trucks.

Watching son Tom warm up for the big Saturday 1stV game against Grammar.

I will miss school sport once he graduates in 10 weeks.i won't miss getting him to the  the 6,30am training sessions

Spent the week drinking beer with the boys in Oregon....and doing a bit of mountain biking. That’s me second from right.

The main attraction was Mountain Bike Oregon, an annual festival in Oakridge that combines hard-core riding with a beer garden. What’s not to like there.

And...the always entertaining mini-bike races in the beer garden.

 

Made it through the week unscathed, exhausted and revitalized. A celebratory cigar tonight. On the road to Calgary tomorrow. Cheers!!

My son loves catching bugs. He is like a fisherman, catch one and release. He will keep it in his mesh bug home for a day, feed him, then let him go. Here are a few shots before he let him go. He called him “flage”, short for camouflage.

My Mum's surprise 70th birthday party today! It was outdoors and it was cold (16°C or 60°F, but the wind chill factor made it feel colder and I was rugged up with a jumper underneath my woollen jacket) yet it was lovely to spend time with our extended family. The barbecue was great!

Gameday. BP away, game 18 out of 30. The streak continues, 12 wins, 6 draws this season and we haven’t lost a game in the league since august 16 last year, that’s 30 games in a row now. But it’s still tight in the top and much can happen.

Spent the entire evening at a rooftop bar with some new friends and some old friends and of course a cigar. Lighting was poor but the view was gorgeous!

Took a 4 day weekend and watched the annual local Poker run in the Thousand Islands....Some serious money and horsepower on display. Stayed at a friends place on Wolfe Island. Great way to relax!

Work brought me into the belly of the beast today, Times Square. A mess of people but lunch in Bryant Park with 75F/25C weather made it a very enjoyable afternoon!

Paticipated in my first ever long ash competition.... possibly also my last ever. This isn’t what cigars are made todo hahaha!

Event was hosted by Cigar Journal’s Samuel Spurr and LCDH Kuala Lumpur.

The last 3rd was horrible. T’was ashy and incredibly hot to smoke! Lips were burning and so were my fingers!

Somehow, managed to pull through and won! Lmao.

Yes I took up quite the advantageous set up! Haha! With my beautiful partner spotting on me, telling me when the wrappers are lit and when they’re not (to add more consecutive puffs until they do). Very very important in the final 3rd.

Out at the beach with the family this week, which typically involves surfing and golf, and more golf and surfing.  

 

 

Out to dinner in Montauk...

It was such a beautiful day, people were taking out their classic cars.  The lot at the golf club was full of them.  I quickly snapped a couple of pics.  I love old pickup trucks.

I was out running a few errands when I spotted the pope driving down the road. Sadly, that was probably the highlight of my weekend
