I wonder if Milagros is aware of this ;)

The last line says it all.

It never ceases to amaze me why cigar makers who tout their NC cigar superiority, continually feel the need to compare themselves to Cubans.  I don't hear Padron doing it.

TAMARAC, Fla., April 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Gurkha Cigar's Cellar Reserve was selected as the best cigar in a blind test by Milagros Morales, the Master Roller at the Hotel Nacional in Havana, Cuba. The Hotel Nacional is arguably the most important hotel on the island and Morales has one of the most respected cigar palettes in the world.

When presented with such classics as Partagas D4, Hoyo de Monte Rey Epicure #2 and Monte Cristo #2 Morale's clear favorite was Gurkha's Cellar Reserve.  The vintage Cellar Reserve uses the finest quality 15-year-old aged tobacco, comprised of an oily Criollo 1998 wrapper that combines an aged Dominican, olor binder with a 15-year old Dominican Filler. Housed in unique wooden boxes that aesthetically evoke a maturing wine barrel, the Cellar Reserve is a delicious medium to full-bodied cigar that is full of flavor and complexity.

"I am honored that Gurkha's Cellar Reserve was selected but not surprised," said Kaizad Hansotia, CEO of Gurkha Cigars. "The entire Cellar Reserve line consistently is rated high and we struggle to keep up with demand.  It is a wonderful example of how tobacco from around the world has improved to surpass that of Cuba."

Gurkha Cigars are known throughout the world for their premium and luxurious cigars, so it's no surprise that they are the most sought-after cigars around the globe. Gurkha produces millions of cigars per year that are sold in more than 70 countries worldwide. And while Gurkha is known for its exclusivity, it has an impressive array of 250 brands of flawlessly handcrafted, premium cigars created in a variety of strengths, tasting profiles and price-points. No matter what your taste, there's a Gurkha cigar that's perfect for your palate. For additional information visit www.gurkhacigars.com.

Gurkhas have quite a following in Asia, or so I hear. I have one stick in a glass tube with a silver wax seal, which was gifted to me about 15 years ago. Apparently it is worth something as only 1,000 or so were made. I don't mind publicity like this as it give label chasers wet dreams, and focuses their attention somewhere else. But I guess it's not great publicity for someone in the business of selling Cuban cigars :)

Well, if Gurkha reports so - I mean, they are the cigar experts and know exactly what they are talking about..... they got the trained "cigar palettes", and their cigars are better than "Monte Cristo" and, hell, sure better than any "Hoyo de Monte Rey" out there.

On a serious note - this is really shabby, and I hope such made up "PR" crap won't have serious consequences for Milagros Morales.

Giving credit where it is due, the cellar reserve are pretty tasty. I could see putting one up against a poorly chosen example of a monte2, just rolled, improperly humidified, that it could beat out the monte. You control the sample, and control the results.

"cigar palette"…  someone who doesn't know the difference between "palate" and "palette" shouldn't be allowed to write anything about cigars or food or liquors.

Ah but Milagros is a master roller, no? Her custom rolls are artistic creations of blend and construction, like Monet's Water Lilies.  So the tobacco on her table is her "palette". :P

But seriously, "palate" used correctly in the last paragraph.  Doesn't anyone subedit anymore?

Well I certainly cannot argue that Gurkha's palette and blending of colours in their bands are rather catchy but most of them are tacky and not really my cup of tea.

I have tried their Cellar REserve 15 twice now..  and I've failed to finish both...  putrid...
