@canadianbeaver

I am off to Vienna in December and i am wondering if you have any further tips from your trip? I have already made a reservation at 'Paul', and Cigarstore Hazar was already on my hit list, alongside a few other one's in the area.

What i am gathering is that smoking is still largely accepted in bars/restaurants (unlike most of Europe!), and i plan on spending a smoke or two at D-Bar which looks great!

Many thanks :lol:!

Vienna was so wonderful from a cigar venue point of view, but send me to Barcelona any day! Any block has a red little symbolic sign for tobacconist and they may only have the equivalent of rolled joints. But they may have the same as Vienna's Hazar above too.

We find that once the owner or head person on duty realizes you are a live one who has their level of interest, they are thrilled to speak with you. Maybe even sit and have a smoke. If they seem indifferent or uninterested, it is because they get folks in front of them all day who are full of shit and bossing them around. For nothing. You might think that they should be more gracious or whatever. Seems they have worn them out, but who knows.

While in Vienna, you have the amazing Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Imperial Treasury. The loot of the Habsburg empire, including some of the greatest art in the whole world.

Thanks for the tips, I shall ensure they’re on the hit list! :D

     *The Hapsburgs are supposed to be direct descendants of the Roman Emperors, aren't they?

The Hapsburgs held the title of Holy Roman Emperors for hundreds of years. They were not really descendants of the Roman emperors from Rome (or Constantinople for that matter). Instead they were borrowing the legitimacy of the church, in exchange for defending its interests with military muscle. Perhaps the most amazing thing in the Vienna treasury, which you can still see today, is the original C10 crown of the Holy Roman Emperors. Absolutely amazing, over a thousnd years old.
