So I’ve got all of these really great cigars in my humidors. Lots that I feel are special and outstanding for many reasons, but still haven’t really smoked just for the hell of it. Waiting for “special occasions” hasn’t been good enough as I have three kids, got married, got advanced education, have a decent job.... what the hell am I waiting on? 95278f8eec70649dc694c88d9b50b0c1.jpgNo idea these days so in honor of that ephiphany I pulled the Robusto from a set of Cohiba Reservas from January 2003. Gonna burn this because it’s Friday, I’m still walking around, and all of the other things listed above. Carpe Diem my friends.

Great perspective! I have a bunch of sticks that I have been saving for that "special" occasion as well. After having a baby boy 8 months ago, I learned that any free time where I can actually enjoy a cigar is now a special occasion. Burn them all my friend!! Hope everyone has a great weekend,

After a recent health scare at the ripe old age of 38 I’ve come the same conclusion. Going to be a summer of great cigars!

Crap - where is my partial box of 2002 Cohiba Reservas... I’ve even forgotten which cooler. Just know it’s all the way at the bottom

The byproduct of the way of thinking the OP just kicked is twofold:

1) Many assume these special occasion smokes will get better with age, but how much better if any?

2) You may love your special occasion cigars new and they may age into completely different cigars within 5 years. Aging into something you don’t enjoy as much and then regret letting age.

For years, I have compared cigars to wine. Wine lovers develop a taste for aged wine. The same thing goes for cigar lovers. Most old cigars become more nuanced as they age. You may appreciate it or you may not. Why risk it? If you like them young, smoke them.

Were you on 1492?

Once upon a time.... then life happened and I went away for awhile while my kids were really little and just trying to get my equilibrium back.

The cigars itself was divine. Great draw, perfect burn, but it wasn’t as crazy complex as I thought it would be. Typical Cohiba profile in my opinion but with a little bit smoother finish on the palate. Took my time and actually drank water with it instead of something different.

It was a worthwhile start to my journey through the depths of my humidor....

I thought it was a great smoke! The first one I had was when they were released. At that time, I thought they were very muted and bland. This one smoked on the sweet side with a tad bit of white pepper on the nose. The first bit was still mild, but amped up around the middle. It's not a complex cigar like some of the other book cigars I've had. It was just a solid cigar and very enjoyable. I have 2 left and am looking forward to seeing how they do with a little bit of time. I can say that now as I know didn't age it to death!
