McDonald's has lobster rolls in those parts during the summer. Best thing ever put on their menu.

Find some steamer clams. The best clam and I have never seen them anywhere else in the world.

Just sent a message to a buddy of mine who lives around portland, asking for his top recommendation. Will report back when I can.

I love a good lobster roll. The best one I ever had wasn’t actually even on a roll. Just buttered toast. The lobster was the star.

Maine is where much northeast coast lobster comes from so it's a great start. I like the rolls at pebbles in Plymouth MA. Personally not a fan of steamers - much prefer little necks or mahoganys - but that's just me.

It probably has a lot to do with what we grew up with. Mahoganys on the grill are pretty awesome though. I much prefer a whole female lobster with the rich tasting roux. If I'm at a clam shack then whole belly clams.

I really regret opening this post. Hungry.

@MoeFOH if you get down to Maryland, make sure you try some softshell blue crabs. Nothing weird. Just straight up softshell crabs.

If you go through Philadelphia, check out Center City Pretzel - http://www.centercitypretzel.com/ - they’ve got really weird hours, but you are going to get the best soft pretzels on the east coast at that place, hands down. It’s worth making it a destination. In fact, I’ve made a few latenight runs fromdc to philly (~6 hours round trip) just to bring back a hundred pretzels or so.

Please don't take me as argumentative - I've eaten bushels of steamers. Anymore I just think they're nasty, and prefer the overall character of little necks. Everthing tastes better on the grill! Some of the best lobster I've had were grilled tails down in Newport RI.

I think I like Florida stone crab claws more than lobster.

Love Portland, and lobster rolls. Was just up there a few weeks ago basically eating and drinking. Eventide is a great spot. Central Provisions also has some tasty stuff.

Out near my beach house in NY, there are a lot of places that have decent lobster rolls, but only one that I think lives up to a good Maine lobster roll.  The place is actually called The Lobster Roll, but they have many other things on the menu.  Unfortunately, the lobster rolls are three times the price as the ones in Maine.

Brilliant! Thanks for the effort in getting that info. Much appreciated. I'll aim to check out one or more of those joints. Cheers!

Thanks. Unfortunately, I'm not going to make it to those places on this trip, but good to know for the future! Sounds amazing! That's some damn fine pretzel that can motivate a six-hour road trip!

I was up in Bangor Maine back in February of this year. Had this fantastic roll at a place called Eagle's Nest. Amazing.

Oh, man... that looks identical to the meal I had except you got way more loaded up with lobster! Brilliant!

Almost went into Central Provision on my wanderings today. Instead, I opted for a place called Rosie's. I don't know why. Perhaps it seemed a little more like a locals' place, and I figured that might be as good a recommendation as any. But I have no real proof of that. Anyhow, turned out pretty good! :)

Have to say, again, loving Portland. Great spot!

Cheers.

My sister lives in Portland and so I get to visit/eat a few times a year

Portland Lobster Co is great for lobster rolls

Eventide is one my favorite restaurants anywhere.

Union restaurant at the Press hotel is also very good.

There are so many good restaurants in Portland.  Lobster at all is good!!

Yes, this is the style I’m talking about. Minimal bread with tons of lobster. My personal favorite.

Ya, it's a real treat for me considering I live in the midwest. It's funny when you go to a nice restaurant here and get lobster, which I don't recommend, you think it tastes great and then you have it on the coast and realize what you ate back home was a farce.
