ayepatz Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 I’m working class Glasgow. Except I’ve bought a £130 toaster. How middle class are you? 2
jerrybrowne Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 Dualits are fantastic and bombproof. Well worth the price.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro 1
Elvis Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 Absolutely love the Dualit, it will outlast me. I even bought one for my Mom and Dad! 1
Lotusguy Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 My Dualit is close to 20 years old and still works like new. Built like a tank. I guess I’m upper middle class or something, but even when I had no money I would always go for the quality item (or nothing and save up). Same with clothing, et cetera. 1

You do know that my quote, "I think the latter hypothesis would be my story" can be taken ambiguously? Firstly, it was my guess, but more significantly, I can relate to the story so well, my wife was just discussing how our cream retro Russell Hobbs Kettle and Toaster are now discontinued and hard to find, just this morning! 1

At the time thought I was a chump for buying it. It is a little tough on bagels (have to smash the bagel somewhat) but it has been a great toaster! Welcome to the club!!! -LOL -Piggy 2

PigFish Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 ...not mine. I got the some super-duper element and the electronic timer vs. the dial type. But the slots are not that wide.

helix Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 AH yes !The quest for a good toaster . Need at least 1200- 1500 watts to make good toast most new ones are 1000 and under and just don't do the job.Dehydrate before browning . Remember the old chrome self ejecting GE's from the 70's? That was a toaster. I have a NESCO, not bad but still not quite what I am after. 1

joeypots Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 It's often the little things that bring me the most happiness. Something that's used almost every day that makes you smile? £130 isn't much for that. 1
LLC Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 I like to buy good quality items the first time but would not have thought to spend $500 on a toaster. Ended up winning this one at a golf tournament and had no idea it was that expensive until I got it home and looked it up. The thing weights a ton and really is the best toaster I’ve ever used. Also does bagels. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hammer Smokin' Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Yikes. Thought you were being facetious with that $500 dollar comment. You weren't.

Looked at it, loved it, did not buy it ... the slots are too small. I'm one of those posh people who buy proper bread in proper loaves from a real baker, and the Dualit will not accommodate me... As to your question: to be middle class, you will have to match the Dualit toaster with a Dualit kettle, and both should ideally have been purchased at John Lewis... 1 1
