Popular Post PrairieSmoke Posted March 30, 2018 Popular Post Posted March 30, 2018 As many of you know, I’m new to the world of Cuban cigars. I started out with our host’s Robustos sampler. Did my first review on the HDM Epi 2 ... which blew my mind. I’ve enjoyed every moment of this tour de Cuba and owe a big ‘thank you’ to this community for just how great its been. That said I just so happened to have this Monte Edmundo Tubos in my humidor resting and this competition gave me a nudge to try it out since the Monte marca is so famous for its chocolate notes. Here goes! Cigar was beautiful, great construction, but I cut the cap and holy smokes was that tobacco dense. Draw was so tight! Luckily I had my trusty PerfecDraw which made quick work of the problem. 1st Third: Wow! Upon lighting I was smacked with some powered semi-sweet baking chocolate. I am honestly still surprised when I smoke a new cigar and these notes I’ve heard about are as obvious as this. Traveling through the first third felt like this: And tasted like this: 2nd Third: My how things have changed! The cigar has really mellowed out here and the chocolate has surprisingly all but disappeared. Journey through this part of the cigar felt like this: Final 3rd:The turn into the final third builds in body and the woodsy notes are joined by coffee and leather. That baking chocolate comes back as an undertone but never as strong as it was for me at first. Overall this was the fullest bodied Cuban I’ve had up to this point. The chocolate was definitely there, but didn’t carry through in the forefront like I thought it might. It was an enjoyable cigar and I’d definitely smoke one again! Happy Easter! PrairieSmoke Posted March 30, 2018 Author Posted March 30, 2018 I’ve got a question that I have been thinking about since smoking this cigar. Hoping some of the more seasoned vets might be able to comment. This cigar had such clear chocolate notes on the front end. I know cigars tend to change throughout the stick, but is there a possibility that you become desensitized to certain notes in a cigar rather than them actually disappearing? I’m sure we have all heard of ‘nose blindness.’ Anyone have any thoughts on acclimation to cigar notes over the course of smoking and becoming blind to them? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
cigaraholic Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Sometimes if you slowdown and sometimes if you purge the cigar the flavors come back, sometimes they’re gone and come back. Sometimes they’re gone forever.... 1
