Popular Post cmbarton Posted March 29, 2018 Popular Post Posted March 29, 2018 Oh the “joy” that awaited me today when I reached for a cigar for the Easter Review Competition! This was my first Monte DE and the four and a half years that have aged it have been kind. One of my favorite chocolate bars are Almond Joys. The marriage of rich chocolate, coconut and almond are, in my mind, perfect. It’s a simple, rich treat that doesn’t need anything else to make it perfect. While other chocolates seem to be limited to certain seasons, Almond Joys win year-round. The best part is when you’ve finished one, there’s a second waiting for you ... an encore when you’ve inevitably enjoyed it so much that you don’t want to stop. That’s when, upon the last third of the Monte DE, the comparison was the clearest to me ... it’s an Almond Joy I can smoke! The cold draw gave hints of what was to come: toast and a tiny bit of coconut. But what was that toast? I hadn’t expected it. Light the foot, take a few draws, and it was right there: toasted almond. A hint of earthiness to round out the nuttiness. Then, gradually, the chocolate built up before coming to the front and totally filling my palate. By the 2nd third, the trademark Montecristo cocoa filled my senses and was most apparent with every retro hale. I didn’t want to let go and thankfully I didn’t have to because I still had a solid half hour of more almond and chocolatey goodness! Sometimes you don’t have the time, but when you do and your sweet tooth needs to be satisfied, more is better! 12
