shlomo Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 I have sung its praises ever since I first tried it last year, but not on this cigar forum! Other cigar forums, whisky forums, scotch pages on FB and certainly all my friends who would listen to me! I remember going so far as to say that it was my favorite product that the liquor monopoly in Quebec carries, and I have bought and drank bottles in the $500-$1200 range over the years...Its pricey in my area, ($300cdn), but still feels like a "deal" and punches well above its price point. Been sold out for many months now and am happy I was able to snag one before they all went. Who knows when or if, it will ever come back this way... Government run liquor board in a "free" commerce economy. For shame.

For shame. shlomo, another reason for a trip downunder. seems available here and even with our iniquitous taxes, sits around the $220 to $250 mark. 1

Generally I'm with you, but what matters is the liquid. And it is glorious. Judging a whisky based on packaging is silly and closes off many options for you imo. Give it a shot c-man. It' delicious. Kind of like the guy who only smokes double banded cigars. ..you know, cuz they think they are special. ..haha

cookj1 Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 I find it over-refined. ...no denying its pedigree and excellent DNA. Give me some smoke. Give me some peat. Give me some flaws. For what it’s worth, I’d take a small batch scotch whiskey producer over this. Call it craft distillation over Mega Corp production. I do like offering it to guests, however. The presentation and bottle are exceptional.

The presentation and bottle are exceptional. my preference is for Islay and those wonderful peaty smoky whiskies but this is not aiming for that. for me, outside of those peaty wonders, i have not seen much better than this. but to be critical of it not having that peat/smoke is a bit like criticising pinot noir for not being shiraz - which i am familiar with, as rob does that all the time. i have a mate who was being critical of spain, even though i know he loved travelling around there. i asked him what exactly he did not like about spain. he thought about it and then replied, 'it is not france'. so i am on board for the peaty whiskies but for me, this is a brilliant example of a different style. and always room for that. fully agree re presentation. exceptional indeed. i also have a thing about people liking "flaws". you often hear it in the wine industry. i suspect i know what they/you mean - character, unique qualities, interest, point of difference. all of which i am fully on board with. but flaws are a fault. i don't ever believe people want faulty wine, whatever they say. character yes, flaws no. 1

Flawed in its expression. Call it a terroir driven thing, if you may. I want my whiskey to not try be more than it really is. Half the experience of some of those high end whiskies is in the presentation, Signet included. Let me taste the oak, the fruit, the nuts, the alcohol, perhaps even the overly high alcohol levels (cask strength). But when it’s so smooth and refined, as the Signet is, I can barely distinguish the flavours from the whiskey flavour wheel.

I actually don’t have a preference; I like all scotch. Like cigars and wine, I find a place and time for all the different styles. Have you tried some of the older Glendronach whiskies? Hard to beat some of those old Macallans too, in terms of smoothness.

PabloJr Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 thoughts?I have had it a few times with a smoke. I find it to be lighter so for me it pairs well with a medium body smoke. I get citrus and floral notes from it that really come out when I drop a rock in it or add a little water. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Bsonwine Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 So I just called and my local package store has it for $199 US. The question I have is it worth the extra $110 over a bottle of Necter D’or?
Bsonwine Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 Funny, Just realized I have been watching Springsteen in Spain while reading Ken’s thread a article.
