Earlier today, Reddit has announced the banning of marketplace/trading of tobacco products, which of course includes cigars. I don't know how many of you also browse that sub, but this is really bad for the cigar community there. I fear this is going to cripple that sub completely as trading is a huge part of the cigar community, regardless of what forum you use.

A huge part of the joy involved with cigars is being able to share and trade between fellow lovers of the leaf...

Today is a sad day indeed.

I might disagree. Although i engaged in a few transactions there, it seems like so many posts on  the market sub were just flamewars against ap67, or ‘lottery’ type sales. Olh seems much better.

As for the CC sub... let’s just say the majority of the users don’t seem half as classy as your average FOH’er. I’m much happier to call FOH my home for quality online cigar discussion.

Classy or not, the demise of any venue for us Brothers of the Leaf is bad news.  It is bad enough that they want to push us out of meatspace venues altogether, but to ban freedom of assembly on the internet is just downright mean.

Totally valid argument!

Yeah. It wasn't the greatest of cigar communities, but there were a good number of sellers who wanted to sell cigars to just get them out to others who might want to try them, not necessarily to make a profit. I really appreciated those sellers, which brings me to the lottery sales. Totally disagreed with those types of sales. Took away from feeling like you're sharing something with fellow cigar lovers, and felt more like preying on gambling tendencies and making a quick buck.

I'm just glad I knew about the FOH community before any of this went down in the first place.

I miss Reddit. Everything about it: creepy stories, happy stories, cigars. Girl with worms, male pregnancy test, one-time-only heroin guy (I am sure this last one was written by some addict therapy group, to good to be true)

It was really fun. I spent a lot of time there. That's why I quit it.

The R/cigars community was the first cigar forum I frequented. I learned a lot but there was a lot of shady crap going on and the forum lost its integrity and bit by bit started to fall apart. Thankfully I found FOH and I have never looked back. Shame that its done but it had a good run. The only constant in life is change....

I used to frequent it. Made some good "Internet" friends there. But it was dead before today's news. Its' death knell was sounded when the trolls took over.  But still.  A cowardly act by the admins to squash these groups but allow hate groups to fester.  Sadly, there is a law just passed that did force their hands. So it's not only their cross to bear, but other sites will follow suit. I have a feeling a lot of cigar flipping on FB is going to cease soon.

That would take away some people's sole source of income ;)

You wrote that quite flippantly ?

Doesn't look like /r/[cuban]cigars is gone, but I'm guessing they won't be too far behind since talking about sources seems to be a grey area under the new rules. Since I found FoH via reddit I'm just glad they didn't do this a year ago. The signal to noise ratio wasn't the best, but if you search - or are just a compulsive reader like myself - there is/was good information to be found. Hate to see it lost to the big spinning platter in the sky :)

dating myself... my first cigar forum was the CA forums... in 1999 :P

that's where i found out about "el dentes" it was the wild west of interwebz back then.

That recent HUHC box split extravaganza will go down in history.  Who knows, that may have had something to do with the policy change.  I was amazed how many people jumped in on that!

I saw the sign up for it but haven't gotten around to it yet.

One of the online vendors ran a deal on HUHC dress boxes for $89 or $99/each.  One Redditor offered to place an order for anyone that wanted box splits or whole boxes, and I think by the time everyone was done jumping in the guy bought a couple dozen boxes.  True to his word, when they arrived he split them and mailed them out.  A massive and glorious transaction, especially because he took no profit for the trouble.

That's what a box split is about! :D  The facilitator needs only each person's share and shipping costs covered.  Profiteering from vendor sales on new stock is pretty low IMO.  If you're selling vintage stock from your personal collection, then you deserve to make a buck.Especially if they were taken care of properly. Flipping new releases for > 2+ times your cost?  Lame.  r/cigars was never built to be a proper forum, but it had its' value mostly in the trading/splitting aspect. Whether or not it was CC's or NC's. A lot of people got to try cigars they otherwise could not get their hands on. On the flip side. There was serious drama on that site.  Stuff with vendor involvement, favoritism, banning, etc.  The upvote/downvote aspect wasn't fully adopted by users either. Many were easy to downvote topics they didn't like or people they hated and very few would upvote most of the good content.

Like some of you, r/cigars was the first cigar community that I became a part of. In my verification trade my verifier really let me down and we got 'summoned' to the battlezone. Then a few months later I organized a bomb for my buddies unit in Afghanistan and caught a ridiculous amount of shit for "begging for cigars," and, "bomb begging," from a lot of the people there, while a lot of the people there participated. I think when all was said and done we sent close to 500 cigars to the desert along with a handful of Bovedas and a cooler to store them in. I made some really great friends on there that I speak with via text and facebook, but man oh man is that place a sesspool for drama. Very thankful I found FoH from there. Initially I only came here to cash in on the 24:24 but since I've been reading the posts here I can tell the people here are more genuine and aren't the a-typical reddit trolls that you can't avoid when you peruse their aisles.

I was pretty active over on Reddit and I agree with a few folks here. There was so much drama at some points that it totally took over what we were really there for. Regardless, it is bad for all botl/sotl when avenue such as Reddit is imposing such ridiculous rules.

I ran a few box split on Romacraft wunderlusts. It was a lot of work but super satisfying. :)

I did a lot of trading, bombing and splits there but quit shortly after that ban. Oh well! FOH has much better content! I really like how the Pres posts engaging questions and content, there wasn't much of that on Reddit.
