Regardless of the shape or size, which cigars in current or recent production do you find most satisfying and addicting? Which ones do you Dislike (or hate)? And which are meh?

It is always surprising to me when someone says they enjoy a specific vitola, which I also like a great deal, but then the same person enjoys another very different cigar, which I find awful. You would think there would be more similarities between people's flavor preferences. I always try to equate my tastes to others in an effort to explore other cigars and expand my horizons.

I find I tend to gravitate to the mild / medium bodied cigars, with a rich and tangy aroma, flavors of mild cooking spices, and the essence of brewed beverages like tea or coffee. I like very flavorful cigars, which is not to be confused with strong or powerful cigars, in fact quite the opposite, I like cigars that have a very mild reaction in the mouth or on the tongue, but which have very distinct flavors. I equate cigars to a treat, like a dessert.

LIKES: Montecristo No. 1, 3 and 4, and the Monte Especiales No. 2, RyJ Cedros De Luxe No. 1, Hoyo De Monterey Le Hoyo Du Depute and Le Hoyo Des Dieux, Por Larranaga Montecarlos and Panetelas, LGC Medaille D'Or (all of them).

DISLIKES (or hate if you feel strongly): Cohiba (virtually all but the Esplendidos), a number of Partagas with a few exceptions, Robainas and most RAs.

MEH: Bolivar, Cuaba, Diplomaticos, H. Upmann  (most, except Mag 46, which is great), Quai D'Orsay, Trinidad (except Fundaores), SLR, SCDLH, Juan Lopez, Fonseca.

Yours?

Agreed, hate is too strong. Dislike is more appropriate.

@FatherOfPugs - I second your dislikes for ELs and Regionals. Some early ELs were very good cigars, but in the past 7-10 years the regionals and limited editions have skyrocketed in pricing but I don't taste or feel anything superior versus regular production cigars (except double bands of course, which are pretty but don't enhance the flavor). Maybe the difference will be more evident in another 10 years, but at >50% premium prices I'm not going to wait and find out.

On the H. Upmann and Cohibas, I almost always feel like I'm missing something because so many members seem to rave about them, but every time I try them I think "WTF? I don't get it".  I can only attribute this to different palates, different tastes.

Aren’t the Fundadores still 40 ring? Just longer, now 7.6 inches?

Like: most Monte Cristo, Por Laranaga, Cohiba, Punch, and Bolivar. If  one word in the cigar size is corona I probably like it. Gorda, grande, gigante, petit, and so on.

Dis: The Edition Limitadas except Monte Cristo and I'm not paying for the Cohibas. Besides, they are mostly all too fat lately. I've long been  disappointed by the REs and Els.  I sold  most of my stash  and bought good quality regular production. Fat and short cigars. I have a few over 50 RG but I don't like the way they feel in the hand or mouth.

Meh: Upman, Trinidad,

Dislike - Regular Production: PL, Vegueros, 52+ ring gaurge short cigars, Guantanamera, Montecristo Open Eagle's.

Love:  I love Siglo 6s.  They have been my favorite production cigar ever since they were first released.

Also Esplendido’s, anything Partagas and Trinidad, Most Bolivars, but BBFs are a particular favorite, Monte 2, 4, and Edmundo, and most Reservas

Dislike:  Rafael Gonzalez, Piedras, Saint Luis Rey, Juan Lopez

Meh:  ELs, Diplomatico, Ramon Allones

LIKES: RASS, JL2, Bolivars, Trinidads, Por Larranaga, Rafael Gonzalez

YUCK:

Saint Luis Rey - The Regios are the worst CC I’ve ever had and nothing is a close second. Tasteless. 0% “ahh Cuba” aroma.

Hoyo De Monterrey - Epicure no. 2 is second only to the Grand Champion, SLR Regios, on lack of flavor and aroma. A serious waste of money. An absolute nothing stick. If you like very light, no flavors, you’ll love this cigar.

H Upmann - I find almost no taste at all, no flavor, no aroma. VERY light to me. DISCLAIMER - I have only smoked ONE Connie A (I thought it was a big nothing stick) and I have NEVER had a SW.

MEH: Partagas. Why do I keep buying these cigars? I have more Parties than anything else. They are never bad but never great (excepting several excellent Party Shorts I’ve had from 2015)

Romeo y Julieta (except Wide Churchills some of the time)

Montecristo - well constructed, rolled, burn, draw but waaaay too light for me. No complexity, little aroma, a nothing brand for me. I keep waiting for SOMETHING to happen but nothing ever does.

I’ve never really had a Hoyo, RG or Punch that has been good much less exceptional. Maybe it’s just me or my selection but MEH.

Love Partagas, PL, RA and Upmann. Consistent every time and hits all my marks.

I am not really buying enough cigars to chime in here. I really don't need anymore cigars...

Most of what I have acquired recently are PCs and sub-PC cigars. Cigars that have made the discontinued list, or will likely make that list in the future. I have found most cigars from '14 forward to be disappointing. Cigars don't taste like they used to (sorry to say). If it turns out that these cigar are sub-par to me, there is always a market for discontinued cigars.

I was last impressed with the '06 to '08 time frame. I think that the Cuban cigar has steadily declined in the last decade.

Rob has said that Tabacuba does not give a rats posterior about my business. He is right! I consider myself a connoisseur, and if I extrapolate that, it means that Tabacuba has given up on the connoisseur market.

My 2 cents! -the Pig

Horses for courses, but I would say my tastes run contrary to the majority.

I’ve yet to try an SP, SLR, Boli, Partagás, Upmann, or Trini that I didn’t like.

I love CoRo, Esplendido, Lancers, and not much else from Cohiba. Does that make it a “meh”?

And despite the best efforts of my cigar pals to convert me, I’m still not much of a Monty guy.

As for ring gauges, you can take anything over 50rg and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine, as far as I’m concerned.

When I got my first box, I thought somebody might spot the error, and I’d wind up with a very rare, collectible box. No such luck. These days everyone’s a Connysour, apparently.

*I'm talking about the original, gold band w/black lettering on it, initial introduction Trinidads. Those are the ONLY Trinidads I've smoked that displayed Habana flavor and character. And long and skinnies aren't even my favorite size! The current batch of Trinidads, the newer releases - just lack flavor, aroma and anything recognizable, Habana, Cuba-wise to me, in any respect. I've given several of them a try. Just not happening for me
