i get a heap of queries, endlessly, about the bottles on my balcony often seen in the vids. for those living under a rock and whom might be interested (a very small number i suspect), water from the rain runs off my roof and would hit the wooden railing. so i have an old esky there to catch it - not keen on it just sitting on the balcony and rotting the timber. and also, the tap on the balcony does not work. jammed long before i arrived. so i use this water to water all the plants.

anyway, this morning i noticed that one had been knocked over and drained. even though i could see the cap was still on.

on investigation, something had had a serious go at the lid. stabbed right through it and must have also knocked it over. things are regularly knocked over on the balcony - usually by possums or possibly the occasional pythons. but no possum or python did this. to me, it has to be a bird. but to knock over the plastic bottle full of water, quite heavy, was something that only a large bird could do.

why attack this bottle? it was almost the only one with a bright orange lid so that might have triggered something. to get to the water? strange as we have had a truckload of rain of late and there is water everywhere. i can only think of a kookaburra - it has the beak to do this; a crow - i doubt it as they use my birdbath regularly so i can't think why; or a cockatoo. they have the beak and the intelligence to have a crack. could have pulled it over. but why? bizarre.

any thoughts?

photos to come - if rob's forum lets me load them.

it did, apparently, allow me to post several times. this new system is not high on my list of best friends.

.......You will be in the nut house by the time you are 60.

i meant thoughts from sane people.

perhaps if you spent the time fixing your forum instead of becoming the dave warner of cigars...

Birds? Hitchcockian madness could be imminent. While the water's up in that creek, Ken, put a hull under the house and sail off into the distance (or just down the road).

Do you drop out?  Does t loop? Is there a message?

Try and be "technical light"

That is because the image file is too big.

Reduce the image size to under 800 mega bytes.   You will be fine.

if you don't know how to reduce your images let us know and someone on the forum will be able to help and point you in the right direction. I have to head off to the airport.

Help him out fellas...It's not his fault ;)

Might have been a Bowerbird. Obviously not a Satin Bowerbird, but maybe a Great Bowerbird or Regent Bowerbird.

If it's plastic is was a cockatoo

Loads around Brisbane at present

Might have been raining at the time and hanging out for it to clear

They get bored

And mess with things

For those wondering, an esky is a cooler.  I had to look it up.

I'm delighted to finally have the mystery of the water bottles resolved!  From the horse's mouth itself, no less!

jeremy, i am pretty sure it was a cockatoo. just the sort of thing it would do. it was either overnight (a surprise) or more likely very early morning when they are active.

fuzz, no.

i suspect it was curious to know what was inside.

Actually I think those are vent holes so the milk will pour freely.
