Popular Post PrairieSmoke Posted March 2, 2018 Popular Post Posted March 2, 2018 I ordered the Robusto sampler from our hosts and put them down to rest for a month at 65/65. I don’t know any box info on this cigar but I’m imagining the samplers are newer stock so probably a 17 year. Tonight I finally had the opportunity to give my full attention to a cigar — wife with friends and kids asleep! First a confession: I’ve been reading voraciously about CCs here and elsewhere and had heard so much about the different profile of Cuban tobacco. I have to admit I was somewhat skeptical about how big the difference could possibly be. I had no idea where to start so I just jumped into the humidor and grabbed the Epi 2. I took a good whiff of the cigar cold — it had a milder, complex scent compared to my NC reference points. I straight cut the cap. Cold draw was good and there was a sweet cedar flavor. 1st Third: Ok this is where my confession is important. There was 0 pepper and the first few draws were floral cedar and cream. My mind was blown, I had seriously underestimated how different this tobacco would come across. My closest reference point would be a Padron 1964 Anniversary, but not really so much because of the flavor as the lack of pepper and the mouthfeel. 2nd Third: Cream and cedar continues with what reminds me of sourdough? Smoking great, good burn with no issues. Final 3rd: My noob palate is failing me here, but the sourdough fades into some kind of a richer sweeter spice with woody undertones. Conclusion: If this cigar is at all representative of CCs then I am in for a great journey as I continue to explore this sampler and beyond! I think you hit the nail on the head re pepper; in terms of the NC pepper, it just doesn't exist in Cubans. You get the odd but of jalapeno in a very few cigars such as Bolivar Gold Medals, and occasionally you might get the odd whiff of white pepper in a few others, but that's about it. Some of the stand out flavours will shock you just as much as this first cigar has, I was knocked been when I first tasted custard (Quai d'Orsay panetela), sticky sweet berry fruits (Romeo y Julieta ex #4), raisins and chocolatey milk coffee (Montecristo #3) etc etc You're in for a fun time, enjoy! 1
El Hoze Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Epi 2 was my first CC as well. As luck would have it that was the one I grabbed for whatever reason. Smoked poolside in Lake Como Italy. I still use it as my official go-to smoke for friends who don’t smoke regularly. Cheers and welcome to the club! 1

You nailed the non pepper element in CC's vs NC's, after long you will find most NC's you previously enjoyed as "pepper bombs" at least that was my case. Enjoy the journey, when smoking fantastic cigars, its hard not to! 1
