I went with the Hoyo de Monterrey ‘La Hoyo du Roi’ (GSN MAR 07). A thoroughly enjoyable smoke, it started with woody notes and the aroma of an old hay bale. Moved into toasty flavours. A lovely evening smoke and it soon settled into a really appealing creamy, velvety texture. Terrific stuff.

I had the last third of a bottle of a fabulous Burgundy, the Domaine de L’Arlot Vosne-Romanee ‘Les Suchots’ 1999, on the kitchen bench, and so, despite my abhorrence (so often ignored) of reds and cigars, I gave it a go. The Burg was so silky on the finish that it did not have the same jarring tannic experience which so often mars the combo, but it was still all a bit blah. Matching them did little for either of our components.

Funny thing that I ordered a vinyl pressing of the Buena Vista SC album only last night. Great movie, only surpassed by the music!

BTW I have never smoked while watching a movie.....well, only from the other side of the glass sliding doors. Then again maybe I did once to The Big Lebowski, but I can't remember the exact details..... My young family precludes this particular combination.

I'e never seen the BVSC. One of these days. For movies I like westerns or brainless action like almost any of the comic book movies from the past 15 years.

What is a HdM Flor Extrafina?  Isn' that just a general phrase used across the marca?

hi shlomo. thanks for that. yes of course - i meant Le Hoyo du Roi. what happens when you don't re-read your work closely. very stupid error.

i blame my sub-editors!

and i am on board with those movies. thopugh i'm sure you'd love BVSC.

I smoked while watching The Big Lebowski on MANY occasions ... never with a cigar though!
