Dr Sweta Rai of the British Association of Dermatologists tells Sun Online Travel: “The window next to your on a plane may be small, but you’re closer to the ozone layer on a flight by tens of thousands of feet. The sun’s rays are much more harmful at this level and we should all be wearing sun cream when flying.”

Sure, when I next take a long-haul westbound flight that takes off at 7 am, I'll keep sunscreen on my face for the whole 12, maybe 14 hours of the daylight flight.  Great dermatological advice, doc.

I don’t see any pilots smearing on sunscreen. Or wearing budgie smugglers, thank goodness.

No one should ever leave the house, really. But then, a meteor or earthquake or sinkhole could get you--my god! The world is a scary place.

I used sunscreen on my arm.  My right arm would get a lot of sun since it was right next to the windshield.  Learned that lesson after a bad sunburn on that arm.

on a separate note, I made some great sun tea in the cockpit  :D
