I saw the post on the Christmas cigar and thought why not ask everyone about their New Years Cigar.

I will be smoking a Fuente Opus X Lost City which Ive never smoked before. So if anyone has any input on how well they smoke and their opinions let me know.

I also have a Upmann Magnum 50 and a Liga Privada No. 9 that I plan on smoking before the whole countdown. Its going to be a long day for me which is why im taking three.

So what's everyone smoking once you hit midnight your timezone ??

Wishing everyone a Prosperous and safe NEW YEAR.

I really like the Lost City, but it seems like most people don't at least when compared to the Opus6 or 22. The Lost City definitely has a different flavor to it.  Hard to describe, but you will know it when you burn one.

For me, I won't be smoking anything at midnight b/c if I was the misses wouldn't kiss me!  But New Years Day I am going to spark an old Cohiba Lancero to help celebrate another year.

To me, the Lost City is just OK. I’m not one who can pick out flavors in a cigar beyond general profiles like sweet or spicy. That’s said, this is the one cigar where I could. It is straight up white pepper from first light to the nub. I found it to be pretty one dimensional.

As for my New Years cigar, I’m thinking one of the Cohibas or the Sir Winston from the Christmas sampler.

Hope you enjoy the Losr City, and happy new year to all.

I haven't decided yet, but I'll need something that can burn well as I'll probably be smoking outside and the temperature will be in the single digits.

Does anyone have any recommendations for cold-friendly sticks?

My New Year's Eve cigar will be a fine, vintage, mid-80's Davidoff No. 1, savored slowly in the calm of a quiet evening.

This will be possible, of course, because I'll be daydreaming it.

In reality, it'll be negative f*cking 30 fahrenheit with the wind chill where I live, and I'll be stuck in front of a damned television, with my in-laws, watching some preening idiot prattle on about some nonsense.

I feel your pain. I’m not laughing at you, I’m laughing with you.

Arguably the most significant cigar of the year. Unfortunately, I’ll have to go with something cheap that pairs well with the overwhelming stench of gunpowder, as my neighborhood turns into a war zone of illegal fireworks. At least it’ll be warm.

yeah, one of the downsides of living in most places in Canada...the bitter cold season! we gotta find ways, sometimes imaginative, too continue enjoying cigars during that time. :-)

I will start with a quai dorsay 50 then move to something like an opus, something a little rare for the celebration.

I don't usually smoke my best at New Years Eve, it's usually crowded, noisy and with the bubbly and spirits flowing freely I usually can't find a moment to sit quietly and smoke a cigar without annoying guests or being antisocial away from the crowd. This year we'll be at a concert, indoors, so there may be some whacky weed burning, but if I get a cigar in it will be a short one before the event (perhaps a 2008 RyJ Petit Julieta), and maybe another shorty after we get back home. But on New Years day, well I've put the LGC MdO #1 and the Monte #1 on notice, they are prepared to fall on the sword at my command. Later tonight, on my birthday, I will likely mourn the passing of another year with my last 2002 ERDM Tainos, and sob in my beer over HSA cutting what has been the best cigar I have ever smoked out of Havana.

I'll be going to the local B&M, which has a small NYE thing. If they arrive today or tomorrow, thinking of committing a venial sin and smoking a Don Alejandro ROTT. If that doesn't work out, maybe a Punch 48 or Upmann No. 2?

Happy birthday and condolences on your discontinuation loss. I live in fear of the same happening to me (the best cigar being discontinued bit, not the passing of another year bit, which is a lock).

Pre-CPAP I will try to squeeze in a Lanceros--something skinny as a reminder of the inevitable resolution.

So much smoke!  One of my favorite memories of growing up in Hawaii.

I hear you. It was all good when I was a kid, and it was mainly just long strings of firecrackers. These days the aerial fireworks that go off like bombs are all the rage, and I have to watch as my pets all think the world is coming to an end twice a year.

I’ve become my father.

Hey, Happy Birthday! Mine is tomorrow. I’ll be taking flame to an Opus X Super Belicoso I’ve been storing for a few years, followed by the Christmas sampler Esplendido. Cheers!

Ahh, yeah, I was in Hawaii in the 90's and it was a ton of firecrackers in my memory.  For my new years cigar I think I'll have a Partagas Short- a different type of firecracker.

I've been confined to bed for the past three days due to a pretty bad fever but finally started to feel better today. I am hopeful that I'll be ready to smoke Sunday (maybe even something short tomorrow). RASS MUR JUN 13 at a minimum, possibly something stronger to follow.

I feel for you. Not even in good enough shape for wine?
