Hello everyone,

I’m going to Cuba for the first time at the beginning of next year. I'm new to cigars, I started to enjoy them not a long time ago.... I’ve heard a lot about the fake cigars that people sell there and about giving fake “receipts”. I want to avoid to be tricked and end up getting a fake product.  My question, therefore, how does a real receipt should look like for buying cigars??? Does anyone have a picture that she/he could send me as reference? (it can be without the purchase prices, just want to know how a proper receipt looks like and what should be on it).

I want to prepare myself so I know what I should ask for in the stores and its always easier when I can show them a sample.

Will appreciate the help of all of you who have the experience ?

Thanks.

Welcome to FOH! It is usually polite to introduce yourself here, before asking the forum for assistance.

As for the facturas, I'm sure other members of the forum who have pics will be able to assist. Also have a look in the Cuba Travel forum.

LLC thanks, I've heard tho that even there sometimes it's not easy to get a receipt. I'm just afraid that I'll end up with some random piece of paper. That's why I would like to know how this real factura looks like. It's my first time ever to Cuba.

Worry less ;)

The LCDH stores will gladly show you the factura's. I haven't seen a fake one from them.

Enjoy your trip and welcome to FOH!

I haven't seen a fake one either, but I have been refused one in the past. I left that first shop and went to another to buy the same cigars and left a decent tip.

Just visit an LCDH and only an LCDH, ignore the guys on the street and keep telling them no. The LCDH give you regular receipts with every purchase. If you pass the 50 cigar limit, let them know and they will hand write a factura for you. IF you bought the 50 the day before let them know so they write it for you on anything you buy that day. Its a lot easier than it seems.

Sorry, forgot to scan an original Cuban Factura for you today - will do so tomorrow if no one else has posted one.

As Nino says, ask for a Factura even if you are just buying a box of 10. You might not need it but they're free and it's no harm having them.

Also, this is important, always have at least a photocopy of the picture page of your passport with you when buying cigars.

They don't need it for ID if you're paying with cash but they won't give you a Factura without your name, nationality and passport number.

To ask for a factura it's just "Hay factura por favor"

When leaving Cuba at the airport, have the Facturas handy, on your person, just in case you're called. If you can show facturas you'll have no problem.

Thanks for the additional passport copy info @Ryan very important, I always carry a copy of my passport in my bag.

I was still asleep and forgot that important piece of info when I posted the pic ( but covered it up in my Factura :) ).

Hi guys!

Everyone thank you so so much for the help! I wasn't aware they will need my personal information for the facutra that's such a useful information to know! Otherwise, id be just standing at the counter wondering hah. Fell much more ease knowing what exactly I need to ask for. That was one of my concerns as well that I will need a proper factura to show at customs to avoid problems or worst like confiscation! Thanks!

Cheers!

As promised, here is a picture of the Factura that you will receive from every LCDH in Cuba for your boxes.

If you do not get it, ask for it and insist on receiving one as this Factura is MOST important when taking boxes out of Cuba - you might/will be asked for it at Cuban customs when departing and better show it to avoid confiscation of boxes.

It does not matter if you buy one or multiple boxes, always insist on receiving a Factura for them.

Generally they will give you the factura on a purchase of 50 cigars otherwise they generally do not. If purchasing custom rolls they cannot do a factura however they will give you a receipt.

When going to Cuba you will be offered cigars by individuals walking around just say no thanks. Stick with the LCDH as most are in Hotels or close. When purchasing cigars they will give you a factura for a purchase of 50 cigars or more. Generally they will not give you one on anything less than the 50. If purchasing custom rolls they cannot give factura on customs rolls however they will give you a receipt of purchase. When going to Cuba I generally bring my passport however I will just give them a copy of it.

That myth about getting a factura only if buying 50 or more cigars is just that - a myth.

You will get a factura for any box you buy if you ask for it and do not accept myths.
