You start a hobby and obsess over it. You go through much fancy and latest toys. Then you realise that you are becoming intolerable a$$ and almost a hipster. So you mellow out and just enjoy

Let's see if I'm that anal. Coffee beans shouldn't be frozen, it messes with the oils and chemical composition of the beans. I don't roast my own beans, but buy just roasted from down the street. The

That's not coffee, that's flavoured milk.

Have had one for >8 years and 10k cups so far and still going strong. The new ones with the PEP process make an even better espresso (the older ones put slightly too much water in, even at the lowest setting).

My wife and I just bought a Jura machine. Got any suggestions on coffee for it? it makes espresso and cappuccino. Great looking machine.

In Canada the company that distributes Jura also owns cafes where they sell the machines and supplies. With their industrial machines in the cafes they use this bean which I use in my Jura and have for over 15,000 cups of coffee over the 15 or so years I’ve had it.

I'm. Usual fine with some blend of Starbucks hut I do prefer the whole bean and the grinder I have at home to grind it to a nice corse grind for my French press. Imo nothing makes a better cup of coffee then a French press, but I'm sure there are other things out there just as good or better.

Not sure you'll read this or not - just out of curiosity, the ECM and Lucca M58 seem outwardly similar. Did you consider the M58, and if so, how / why did you decide on the ECM? Regardless, how did you decide on the ECM - thanks.

I have had the ECM for 3 years & been very happy with its performance & quality. No issues so far. The ECM was carried by a retailer that I trust & they gave it very high marks. They didn't carry the Lucca so it made my decision easier. I believe the ECM has a larger boiler for frothing but not sure if that is really that big of a deal in a residential application. The units appear to be similar in many ways & I don't think you can go wrong with either. Good luck with your decision.

Here's some reading. Not sure how biased that might be.

Thanks guys. At this time my only decision is to stick with my twenty five year old Krups.... :)

If you are truly “anal” about coffee, maybe you should try Kopi Luwak.  The coffee beans are eaten by a monkey-looking animal called an Asian Palm Civet, and after being expelled from the creature’s anus, the beans are collected and used to make coffee.

The real reason I searched up this thread though, is that I am in the market for a coffee/expresso machine.  I was going to buy one of those fancy, expensive European machines, but I really dont think that is practical for me.  I go to work so damn early as it is (5:00 AM) that I dont want to wake up 10 minutes earlier just to make coffee or expresso.  I’m no coffee expert, but I like good coffee.  A few people on this thread mentioned Nespresso.  Would a Nespresso machine be a better idea for me to get?  Is their coffee comparable to a real expresso machine?

A Jura will make a coffee drink in the same time as a nespresso. Just needs a minute or so to warm up after you turn it on. That’s one of the nice things about these machines.

Definitely subscribing to this thread.

I don’t own a Jura but I’ve had the pleasure of drinking a few cups from it. I’m convinced you could process a handful of dirt through that machine and it was be amazing. Haven’t found a coffee maker to come close to it.

The Rake featured a set of 6 Kopi Luwak K-Cups recently. 6 for $60. Haven’t purchased them yet but it’s on my list.

How does it work?  Do you just leave the beans in it, and it grinds them when you push the button to make the coffee?  If that is how it works, that would be fine for me.  I need something that I can easily do on my way out the door.

Also, if I want to be able to make expresso, expresso drinks, and regular coffee, which model would you recommend?

I just spent the last couple of hours researching Nespresso machines, so if you could give me a head start with Jura machines, that would be great.:)

I found the Jura that I think I would buy, but it is a new model and I cant seem to find it for sale anywhere.  It is the S8.  I am going to call the company this week.

Super easy. For mine the beans and water are in it. Just dial in how much water and press the button 1,2 or 3 times for mild, regular or strong. Even had a separate place where you could put ground decaf or flavored coffee without it mixing in with the beans and affecting those. Add a milk attachment to make cappuccino.

I was wondering if they made them with 2 compartments for expresso and regular coffee.  That is absolutely something I want.  Do you know if all of the models do that or only certain ones?

In all my research yesterday, I found a great page with in depth reviews of most of the Juras    http://www.espressoperfecto.com/jura-espresso-machines/#2 but it doesnt tell me about that feature.  As I said though, I am waiting to find out about the Jura S8 from the manufacturer before I make any decisions.

Strangely, when you google “best expresso machine”, almost every single site lists the Breville BES920XL Espresso Machine as the top one.  It is a fraction of the price of the Juras.  I think it takes more work and skill to use than the Juras do, but with such accolades, it must make some pretty good expresso.

All models I know have a container for beans and a chute for ground coffee. I’d get one of the newer machines with the PEP brewing process - it makes a much better espresso. A friend of mine has the Breville and it makes great espresso but the process is a lot more manual.

Today I bought the E8.  It has the PEP feature.  I called the company, and they couldnt tell me anything about the S8 other than it will be out in another month or 2.  So then I was going to get the Z6, but the E8 is basically the same machine for a lot less money.  The E8 even has a WiFi/app feature that I dont think the Z6 even has.  Im happy about my choice.

Now to figure out where to get my beans.

Im slightly fussy about my coffee. Probably a little bit more than the average person but mid week its just regular pot. Always good quality freshly ground beans and fresh filtered cold water though. On the weekends when time permits I'll use the french press.

Caught my wife dumping water straight from the tap today into the coffee maker and couldn't help but yell out "what are doing?!?" Our water here in this part of BC is really good but its even better after being filtered.

I've yet to go the route of measuring weights etc but have a few things sitting in my amazon account that i recently looked at that perhaps I'll buy one day.

You can find so many theories and methods online for the perfect pour online its almost too much. Weigh the coffee, hand pour the water at a specific temp at a specific speed for a specified time, let it bloom, start pouring again. Wait. Enjoy. This does appeal to me though as I enjoy noting things down to compare different grind amounts with different temps etc but sometimes you just want that caffeine buzz ASAP

Shameless plug:

Fellow member Lisa (Canadianbeaver) has a mail order shop rocketfuelcoffee .com

I have a subscription at verve since their light roast african single origins suit my taste for pourover the best and they are local to me (ie one day shipping to my house).

Vervecoffee.com

I have the pre-predecessor to your machine, BTW. 10k pulls and going strong!

A friend I camped and fished with kept insisting on making me coffee. (I brought my own) . He served up yuban. That's not good coffee.

Am I a coffee snob? If so I'll own it.

That guy isn't cheap he just doesn't like coffee the same way I do. If we fish/camp together again I'm going to insist on providing the coffee.

The machine came.  They sent the wrong color, which is a different model number than the one I ordered.  It may cause an issue with the protection plan, so I am waiting to hear back from them.  I dont want to return it but I may have to.  That’s not stopping me from using it though.  I have tried every coffee drink it makes, and Im pretty sure I will be wide awake through the weekend.  The coffee is amazing.  Even better than I expected.

Is that one that automatically makes the milk foam. Was reading that the lines need to be replaced every 3 months due to sanitary reasons, even if cleaned. I really want a new espresso machine, but wouldn't want one that needs replacement parts many times a year. I'm currently using a refurbished estro profi that my mom gave me. She used it daily for 15 years and it's still going strong.
