Hmm...there should be no bands on the cigar itself. Both the standard Boli band and the LCDH band are on the gold foil. I don't believe there was ever any deviation in packaging or appearance for the initial 2004 run or the 2007 re-release.

If you have any missing the LCDH band I'd say they probably fell off or were removed. Every BGM made (04-11) should have had the LCDH band.

From CCW here.

You might have some older standard releases.

Status: A pre-1960 release. Discontinued 2011.
History: Standard cigar discontinued in 1992. Reinstated in 2007 as a LCDH cigar but discontinued in 2011.
There was also a special release in 2004.

As the original BGM is one of the rarest cigars on the planet I'd say it's highly unlikely he has a pre-92 version. Of course, an original would not have a LCDH band.

I think he's got a 04-11 LCDH release with the LCDH band missing. They can be removed from the foil.

The 2004 release was commissioned by Christoph Wolters for the Peter Heinrichs shop in Cologne Germany. I wouldn't expect those would have the LCDH band as they weren't an LCDH release.

See above, CCW does show the 04 release as a LCDH release, as does this:

https://thedirtyashes.wordpress.com/2014/02/20/2004-bolivar-gold-medal-5th-avenita-wolters-release/amp/

The pre-92 versions should be easily identified by the old Boli bands and the flourished font (standard band A). If it's standard band B, it's a 04 LCDH release. 07-11 would have standard band C.

I miss Art's blog.

Last time I talked to him he was "moving" to whisky and letting cigars not so much in evidence.

You can date them somewhat by the Bolivar band, which changed design around 2009, give or take. The old ones have just Habana written on them, the new design has Habana, Cuba. Also they changed from a smooth gold foil to a more textured cigarette paper style one around this time.

What year did they start putting the LCDH bands on bolivar gold medals? I got a few without the bands in a lot of loose singles and I'm trying to get a guess on the age.

Why can't we get to see some pics?

Yes, I will show you mine if you show me yours
I haven't seen the ones "paper" wrapped - anyone got a shot of those?

... a bunch of us did a group buy with CW when these were released. I thought I had a complete box left but I cannot find it. However the only loose BGMs that I have are the CW release and here are two. As I recall the box had wooden dividers, but I am going from memory.

I smoked an '08 on Thanksgiving (due to this thread) and it was an interesting cigar. Overall, I thought many cigars from '08 were good cigars.

Got this box at a charity fund raiser Herf that year (a good friend's wife passed). Gave one to the guy (Jeff) that thought he would win them and gifted one at the Unofficial Houston Herf recently. I have enjoyed a couple myself - sadly these are Last Mohicans in my stashFullSizeRender.jpgIMG_3870.JPG

Great pics gents, and thanks for posting.

But my post was addressed at the OP who is enquiring info about his cigars. I guess it would be of help, if we were simply shown some pics of the sticks in question instead of putting the cart before the horse by debating what he might be having, or what it should or could look like... ;)

Yes, that would certainly help the analysis along, especially since the only non-LCDH banded BGMs would be pre-92 versions which would certainly be quite remarkable for the OP to have.

As a side note, I smoked through a couple boxes of the 07/08 re-release version and I wasn't impressed at the time. I think the consensus is that the 04 release was better. In fact, I recall the BGMs I had were particularly unimpressive as much of what I was smoking in the 07-09 period was very good and they were quite a disappointment for me.

To be honest Graham, I was not much impressed with the CW release when they first came out. The one I smoked on Thanksgiving, while I won't rate it as a 'favorite' cigar, did impress me.
