LOL While I wouldn't recommend you trust the post office with caring for your cigars, I think this use case seems to confirm that a well sealed box, with minimal oxygen, can be aged a long time without the cigars going bad. I've know enthusiasts who swear by vacuum sealing boxes for aging, and from samples I've been gifted that were aged 10+ years I have to say it seems to work very well.

JR Kipling Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 I’m curious - were the 2011 cigars in a box that was sealed in a vacuum bag or other type covering to reduce air exposure?

rcarlson Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 Same thing happened to me with some Non. 2's. More like 18 months overdue though. Never could bring them back to tolerable. I'll be curious to hear if you have better luck.
joeypots Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 I got just such a package a few days ago. I though the cigars were a mistake or gift from our host because I'm a good customer. I sent off an email offering to send the cigars to the rightful owner or giving thanks for such a generous gift. The reply quickly disabused me of any notion of such a gift. I have no memory of the lost order and that a good think because it means FOH made good on the package. The cigars look to be coronas grandes, I bet they are HDM De Dieux. They look a little rough, just like cigars that have been warmed and cooled repeatedly. They are quite supple, though, and are not dried out and brittle. I put them in the humidor in a bag with a Boveda and we'll see how they are in a few months. I think there is opportunity here for a "5 or 6 year confiscated contraband phantom delayed delivery miracle cigar" contest with a fantastic prize sponsored by our leader Just to add insult to injury, lol.
PigFish Posted November 11, 2017 Posted November 11, 2017 ... if that beautiful red-head that I ordered from Russia 20 years ago shows up, I am in a heap of trouble! -Piggy 2
Corneighdo Posted November 11, 2017 Posted November 11, 2017 never actually loses anything. Just delayed. Or severely delayed. If they find old mail, they attempt delivery, no matter how old. There are some cool stories about mail centers doing clean up, or closing, and finding ancient packages or letters, sometimes 50+ years old, and delivering them just like normal. EDIT: removed name of courier.
