Is this even a cigar?

if the cutter will cut through this dowel....it's either a winner ...or a crock of s*** ;)

Thanks for sharing.

Funny they dont mention the lifetime warranty Xikar offers. That is a dealbreaker for me.

I swear by my Xi1. Have tried several good cutters but always comes back to it. Broke down once, but then it was replaced without any hustle by a local dealer thanks to the warranty.

This does the job quite well. (Actually any very sharp blade can work for me. I often cut a cigar with a pocket knife) -

Agree on the warranty. I have the Xikar Xi2 that's on #3 on that list and it feels like I'll be using it for ages to come.

I have an original Xikar. I got it from a cigar merchant in Florida that used to put gifts in every order a box of cigars I made. I got the cutter and at least 5 of the Blazer torches from them. After I  used the cutter for about ten years the screws started to come loose so I called Xikar. Free replacement that I use to this day. There might be better, more expensive cutters, but the regular aluminium cutter  works great and Xikar's customer service is great.

Xikar has been my go to. I have 2 of them and dont think ill need to buy another for a long time. Boring design, but tried and true.

I've been using the Cuban Crafter Perfect one now for awhile. I picked it up off Ebay from them for like $16. Works great and takes the perfect amount off. They do make another cutter for the +54 gauges out there.

Odd they listed the Colibri v-cutter twice for different colours. My take:

I'm a v-cut only guy, have been coming up on 4 years now. I like the Colibri v-cutter but the cut can be too deep for smaller ring gauge cigars. The new Xikar VX2 cutter has a nice build, good mechanical action, and a medium sized v-cut.

I'm also looking forward to the Colibri SV cutter which incorporates a v-cut and and s (guillotine) cut in a single cutter.

Big fan of V-Cut and the new Xikar VX2 is built like a tank and cuts very well - significantly better than my previous go-to, the Xikar VX1 (I think that's what the model was called). At home I love my Donatus scissors but I can't fit those in my backpack ;)

I was a Xikar guy through and through until I checked out Palio cutters
I've got two Palios now, one for my bar and one for my car. The car cutter has been knocked around a fair bit but the finish is still (mostly) intact and the blades are perfect
I've got 5 Xikars and theyre all fairly old and getting dull now, I could ship them back to the US for sharpening but after close to 10 years of service I'm happy to retire the oldest ones and buy another Palio or two

Does anyone have the Dupont cutter?  If so, how is it?

I bought this one on a recent trip to Strasbourg, France. Prettiest cutter I own. It does not cut well at all. If you want to skim the cap it does well. If you want to cut off a little more than that, you will most likely end up cracking the wrapper. A shame.

I need some new cutters. Thinking about getting one of each.. A Palio and a Xikar.

I love XIkar because of the lifetime warranty, which in many cases means I can walk into a deal and they'll swap out a replacement on the spot.

I've never had a Palio, but I've really been impressed by the ones owned by others that I've tried.

To elaborate; the Colibri V cut makes it very easy and had a nice sharp blade. Never had an issue with it.

Xikar's first version cut a little shallow for my tastes. Some others said to just double cut creating more like a W. That was odd and didn't seem right.
The new version is deeper but the one I tried just didn't have as sharp a blade as the Colibri and ended up cracking the cap or gave an angled cut.

So the preference for V cutters goes to the Colibri.

WRT the Cuban cutters, I'm just a bit anxious to get to smoking. So I don't want not like to spend a lot of time making sure I've lived up the cigar properly and an cutting the right depth etc. The perfect cutter removes the guess work and just makes it easier for me. The blades are nice and sharp as well.

So these are my go to cutters.

A friend of mine only uses the V cut because he finds it a draw and more aesthetically pleasing to him. To each his own! I guess in the end, as long as you get to smoke the cigar, that's what matters.

The best I reckon are the one-sided plastic branded cutters handed out at Habanos Festivals - 12 years and still very sharp, lightweight and sharable.

I still have my Xikar mtx scissors. After about 10 years and 1,000s of cigars they're still sharp.

I clicked the amazon link for the Number 1 and see it's advertised as "self-sharpening".

No it's not. Double-bladed cutters don't sharpen themselves. They might straighten their cutting edges during use, but that's not sharpening.

An easy-to-use tool for sharpening a curved blade like that of a cigar cutter or a scissors, that's something I'd be interesting in.

I haven't come across one yet. I made a pig's ear of a cutter blade years ago with a Dremel tool and lack of patience.

I use the cuban crafters.

Every now and then, I just put it in a bit of boiling water to clean it - and it always cuts smooth and fast.

I've never had problems with a level cut or with ring gauges - but then, I don't have anything larger than a 56 and it cuts a 56 just fine thankyouverymuch.
