Jbhunter223 Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Hey everyone, My handle may have given away that I really enjoy hunting. Bow hunting has been my favorite for some time, and with the weather here in the Midwest changing all I want to do is sit in a stand! Just curious if anyone else here on the forum hunts? And how is the season going so far? -Jayme 1
prodigy Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 I've been out twice. Watched a buck at 80 yards last time. Wind changed, he smelled me, and took off! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
JR Kipling Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Haven't been able to get within bow range of elk yet this year. It's enticing when you can hear them bugling up in the mountains Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Don't have the time and funds to pull it off for a while tho.
JR Kipling Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 On the other end of the size scale is hunting wild turkeys with a bow. Lots of challenge & rewardingSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Jbhunter223 Posted October 25, 2017 Author Posted October 25, 2017 I've had one really good buck on the trail cameras since august; he makes an appearance once a week in daylight, too inconsistent to make it happen yet.

... Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 My dad got a cow moose second morning of the hunt (two weekends ago). He radioed me the news as I was scoping a nice cow myself on the opposite side of the mountain. We won't be running out of meet this year ?
Jbhunter223 Posted October 25, 2017 Author Posted October 25, 2017 @Jeanff. That's great! How many lbs. of meat do you get from an average cow?
... Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Good question, no idea. This one is fairly big, should give about 400 lbs or so if all goes well.
Jbhunter223 Posted October 25, 2017 Author Posted October 25, 2017 Haha fair enough. That's a lot of meat though!
TheFullMontecristo Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 you guys will like this video. *No worries for the sensitive, nothing is harmed in this video. 1 1
CooGAR Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 I'm not a hunter, but I found this article interesting about this deer that was killed with a crossbow recently. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/10/24/hunter-bags-36-point-freak-of-nature-deer-his-crossbow/797367001/
WoadyCypress Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Only a few small doe and a fawn the time I got to go opening weekend. I will still now hunt a few times during rifle season after I get some meat in the freezer. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
Jbhunter223 Posted October 26, 2017 Author Posted October 26, 2017 Went out last night. Saw 3 does out of range and 2 buck came in right after legal light, looked good size but couldn't make out racks in the dark.
ChrisMG Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 This will be my second year hunting. So far haven't seen too much. Lots of signs of deer traffic just no deer! Definitely learned a lot from last years failures though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
HShep Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 I'm on a new lease in Arkansas this year. All duck. Four pits, two or three layout fields, a river blind, and some timber. I'll probably try and line up a Canvasback hunt on Catahoula (Louisiana) lake this year as well. I'm definitely looking forward to smoking a Bolivar or HdM while hunting the old man with a good Parker SxS.

They're fun to shoot.
HShep Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 I'm looking for an LC Smith Longfowl. 3" chambers. Ideal grade would be a dream come true. 30" bbls. The plan is to do a soft restoration on it with no intent on selling it.
Jbhunter223 Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 Sat last night in the 35mph winds, saw one young little 8 point. Supposed to be nice weather and rain moving through later this week. Hoping for some action. Still getting daytime pics of a good buck moving in daylight once a week.
Sean3 Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 This thread almost makes me want to come out of hunting retirement...almost. 1
Dijit Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Im there! Love to bow hunt. Refuse to use a tree stand though. On the ground in the brush. Black powder season works the same way for me. I can almost feel the chills starting again for late bow and black powder to start. 1
prodigy Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 I'm surprised your photos has been up this long. Mine got taken down asap. Apparently it's against the rules to show our kills on the forum. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
