I am smoking a Cohiba Siglo II FROM 2014. I paid a premium for the box and the sticks have good color and const This cigar seems to be in a dormant stage or something as it is kind of flat having less taste and ham comparable examples right off the bat. How much longer should I let these sit before I try one again? Any comments are welcome and appreciated. I have zero expierence aging Cohibas up until now I typically burn through them quickly as I am hopelessly addicted to the taste profile. I am now however starting to gather enough stock for long term aging. Thanks in advance

A 2014 Siglo II shouldn't have gone flat simply from "age" (3 years hardly qualifies :o ) unless it's been sitting outside in the sun and rain. :cigar:

I'm not a big Cohiba collector, but in the past I've experienced Upmann boxes gone flat that came back to life (and in a really big way) over a span of 6-9 months.  If I'd been testing them regularly it might have been even sooner, but when I run into a flat box I tend to just stick it in the back and forget about it, so not very scientific.  And of course I could have just sampled the one dud out of the box too . . .

Significantly older boxes (like 15-20 years) I don't have many of, but the few I've had seem much more sensitive to travel, and while a they were underwhelming on arrival, they did much better after 12 months down.

Since your box is already 3 years old, I'd set it aside and saran wrap it or ziplock it too.  You certainly don't have to worry about ammonia any more and I think less air exchange will help them come around.  Just my humble opinion.  No science from me on this. :cigar:

Similar experience with the Siglo II.

First 2 years smoking very nice then become slightly muted compare to me expecting it will open up.

Haven't touched them for some time and as I am not in a rush I plan to let them rest to get to 5 years.

Just my experience ...

This is an interesting approach. I’ve had similar experiences with most of my CC’s to some extent, although none of mine are older than 2015. It seems like the tastiest, most vibrant sticks are the ones I’ve had ROTT...then they go somewhat flat for a bit. I’ve just now started delving back into some of those boxes that have been sitting for 6 - 9 months, and for the most part, they’ve regained that original taste. You mention wrapping them up, similar to the  3 week process they went through to get to me in the first place, after which they taste great for a few weeks. Hmm. Could there be a short term affect such as this involved?

Agreed.  And, for what it's worth, if one looks at the 24/24 when Siglo IIIs come up you'l see that El Prez likes the IIIs with more than 5 years. I can't remember exactly what he says the sweet spot is, 6? 7? The point is that Cohibas benefit from time down and smoking them at 60% or so makes all the difference. My .02$

I've smoked several boxes of Siglo 2 over last few years. Have had maybe a half dozen or so be kind of flat as you're speaking of. Have also had Siglo 2 which were so powerful they were nearly unsmokeable. In my humble opinion they are the best PC made, but they are probably the most inconsistent of the Marca (besides maybe Esplendidos..). As others have recommended smoke another one soon and if you get the same experience again don't touch them for at least 6 months to a year.

Smoke the next one, soon - and report back.

BINGO! ... a one cigar sample is not representative of anything except the one cigar!!!

Habanos are always a risk investment. Some will be good, some won't. You smoked one that wasn't. It happens...

We all want to depend on 'cigar reputation.' Some perform better than others.

Time won't make the rest of the cigars good or bad. It might dry them or wet them, but I won't re-roll them either correctly, or incorrectly. From here on, the only variable up to you is how you store and care for them. All the rest is in their DNA... Welcome to Cuban cigars!

smoked mostly aged siglo II 7+ years and those were fantastic! as for others Siglo's, Siglo VI is very good always not depending on their age.
