I think part of the problem is the contrast to the great Australian tennis players of the 1950s and 1960s such as Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Ken Rosewall, Lew Hoad, John Newcombe et al. As Australians, I think we look very favourably upon Pat Rafter as as an ambassador of the game and admire how Lleyton Hewitt channeled his temperament and passion to be respected as he grew older, but we don't want to identify with Kyrgios or Tomic.

Exactly right! Couldn't agree more @JohnS

Plus I cant help but think of these players as little spoilt brats when they behave like that (Kyrgios and Tomic specifically). They can at least have some respect and class!
