I've never experienced this before. All of my cigar smoking lately has been late at night after the wife turns in for the evening, and smoking a good cigar is usually the last thing I do before hittin

I don't feel either cigars or caffeine late at night.  Perhaps if it was a particularly 'fresh' and uncured cigar, but then it would be more of a nausea problem    Nicotine though is a stimulant in li

Experienced this before. The cure? A few more beers.

I must admit I get very relaxed after smoking a cigar. If I've had a busy day, that'll be enough to get the eyelids to fall.

It definitely depends on the complex physiology of the individual, but nicotine is most certainly a stimulant.

Nicotine is a stimulant as well as a relaxant. The stimulating or sedating effects are dose-dependent, and yes, likely also on ones metabolism.

Nicotine is a stimulant.  Like caffeine.  Like ritalin.  Those that have ADD (like me) relax and calm down when given stimulates.  Give me a pot of coffee and I'll sleep for hours.

Smoking close to bed time typically doesn't give me insomnia, but it does lead to some very weird dreams.

Definitely experienced this, more so a few years ago when I was fairly new to cigars....not so much now.

"Depending on the number, volume, duration, smoke dilution, and depth of inhalation, nicotine can act as either a stimulant or tranquilizer. This can explain why smokers report that smoking gives them energy, stimulates their mental activity, and helps them to attend and concentrate , while others note that smoking relieves anxiety, leads to feelings of contentment, and relaxes them [23]. Upon entering the bloodstream, nicotine immediately stimulates the release of neurotransmitters, neuromodulators, and hormones , which are responsible for most of nicotine's effects like reducing pain, stress, and anxiety or increasing arousal and enhancing cognitive functions like alertness, concentration, and memory [24]. ..."

I used to think that having a cigar before bed or in the middle of the night relaxed me, but this is not the case. Nicotine is a stimulant and makes it harder to fall asleep and to stay asleep. When I faced this problem, I wanted to start taking sleeping pills, but according to the Canadian pharmacy site, they can be used only for a short period of time. I guess, I'll give CBD a try. I read that it works for many people.

Nicotine a stimulant, alcohol a depressant. Find your balance...

That said, at a Fuente event I had smoked several, ending with a fresh XXX Power Ranger and could not sleep at all.

I track sleep with Oura ring and my data/their algorithm consistently shows lower sleep quality after a cigar closer to bed time. But its not completely trashing REM, deep sleep durations...maybe 10-20% less.

I’ll enjoy a cigar at noon and take a nice nap afterward, no problem!

I had insomnia issues my entire life, it seems like my body jumps on every occasion to not fall asleep. Yet so far I haven't noticed any negative effects from smoking cigars at night before bed. I've also never felt stimulated from cigars, either I feel relaxed or I feel nothing. Everybody's body chemistry is different after all!
