Westside Threat Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Its happened to me a few times but always been a notoriously strong NC that did it.
Habana Mike Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Not for a long time but I do recall early on I was at a 3-day herf with Carlito Fuente and the CF crew. Smoked many, many cigars over the weekend but what I think got me was a Power Ranger xXx right before bed on the last night. Had to get up early to drive home but laid there vibrating for a few hours. Pretty sure it was the nicotine.

All of my cigar smoking lately has been late at night after the wife turns in for the evening, and smoking a good cigar is usually the last thing I do before hitting the sack. I don't drink, so cigars are my "nightcap" or closure to the day. This is me and I'm not agreeing just because I was in Fayetteville at the game this weekend. Tho I do have a dark beer or a whiskey with my stogie. 1
Fuzz Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 After last night's cigar session with some of the Sydney boys (finished at 10:30pm, got home about 11:30pm), I didn't go to bed until 3am... then again, I only sleep 4.5hrs a day. I'm probably not the best person to comment on sleeping.
busdriver Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Has definitely happened to me and made me worried it would be a recurring thing, but it has not been. My advice is always to smoke on a full stomach! I cant always drink with cigars, but I can eat.
zeedubbya Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Never had a problem with this, but I'm same as@fuzz in only sleeping 4-5 hours a night. Sometimes, rarely, a cigar will make me feel kind of dopey/sleepy. It always seems to go with that strange tingling/numbing of the tongue. It's a very odd sensation, but not unpleasant. I too have read nicotine in lower doses is a stimulant and higher doses a sedative. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
zepp69 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 I smoke 2-4 cigars a day. Sometimes in the evening. I don't sleep very well to begin with and sometimes it takes a while to fall asleep. I smoke stogies before bed and really haven't noticed a big change. Weird dreams sometimes but not sure what the cause of those is. Love a cigar in the evening in the man cave after everyone goes to sleep. Hope you find an answer or this issue dissipates over time.
Smooth Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Yes nicotine is a stimulant BUT that said a cigar be it good or bad, usually calms me. Depending on the cigar, wether it be 30 mins or two hours I am alone, just me , feel the breeze outside, think about nothing exciting etc. The only times it won't have such a calming effect is when under huge stress or anxiety related to work or other issues in life. Maybe the question could be truly answered by having a cigar with a pad and pen with you and writing down whatever comes to mind should you feel the need.
tomhsu Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 I did experience problems falling asleep after smoking at night. Since then, I reduced cigar smoking after sunset.Gesendet von iPad mit Tapatalk
Rustyman Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 In the past week, I have smoked a cigar on two occasions in the evenings, i.e. just prior to sleeping. On both occasions, I have had pretty vivid dreams/nightmares. The only thing different to previous night-time smokes is that on the last two occasions, I did not have anything alcoholic with my cigar, instead I had Coke Zero or tea. I am not someone who generally dreams much so these events stood out. Any ideas as to what is behind it, besides just nicotine?
Smokin911 Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I have experienced this several times and each time it was a strong cigar or a young cigar that gave me a nicotine buzz, that made me restless and edgy. However, I've smoked many cigars at night with no ill effect, so I believe this issue is the nicotine in strong or younger cigars. 1
Luca Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I usually smoke in the evening/late at night. Never happened to me. If I have a sip of coffee though...I will usually have trouble getting to sleep.

PapaDisco Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 After a couple of cigars and a couple of bourbons I sleep like a baby . . . can't say the same for my poor wife however . . .
Mattb82 Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I notice this sometimes but for me it comes down to how strong the cigar is and its affect on my heart rate
Randy956 Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 An old thread, I know. I've trouble sleeping well after a strong cigar. Nicotine is keeping me awake and when I do sleep after a stogie, I have the oddest dreams. Not bad dreams, but quite vivid ones. I'm pretty sure it's the nic in the stick causing my sleep/dream issues. Folks who use the nicotine patch have similar results as I learned from internet posts of those using the patch.
Buck14 Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Yes for me smoking in the evening, without drinking any alcohol, keeps me wide awake.
Wilzc Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 There was ONE particular evening where I had coffee around 8pm with a strong cigar and... I couldn’t sleep till 10am!!!!!But otherwise I do enjoy cigars at night so no effect for me. Also worth a note coffee normally doesn’t work for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bagman Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I always drink coffee with cigars (I don' drink alcohol, I just hate it, no other reason for not drinking it). I can smoke back to back cigars with coffee and fall asleep instantly. It is the only positive thing about having ADD. Coffee and cigars help me sleep
FatPete Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I must admit I get very relaxed after smoking a cigar. If I've had a busy day, that'll be enough to get the eyelids to fall.
Hookmaker Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Me too, I can smoke the strongest cigar, drink coffee at midnight, and when my head hits the pillow I’m outSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Randy956 Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 You folks who can sleep well after enjoying a cigar are lucky. Sometimes I’ll take an Advil PM if I know I’m having a decent cigar. It’s my sleep helper.
cfc1016 Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 It definitely depends on the complex physiology of the individual, but nicotine is most certainly a stimulant. I find that the stimulant effects have a greater impact on my sleep if i haven’t had much to eat. The more i have in my stomach, the less the nicotine affects me. I also don’t drink alcohol, so that most likely has an effect as well.
Westside Threat Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 The lot of you that have no insomnia...you are very lucky. Count your blessings!
