Hey all - My wife and I just got married on Sunday and are leaving for the honeymoon on Wednesday next week just as long as Irma doesn't take out the island.  We are looking for some help on some things to do and was curious who all has been to Dominican Republic.  I want to do a cigar tour down there along with any help on Cubans on the island.  Any other help on some awesome excursions would be helpful.  We are looking in some items on a Catamaran and the 4x4/ATV/4 wheeler tours.

Thanks for any help or guidance.

Congrats! What resort you headed to? My wife and I had our honeymoon at The Excellence and loved it!! We went zip lining for a day and really enjoyed that.

Other than the zip line, we drank like fishes and napped on the beach!

Thanks!  We are heading to the Secrets Royal Beach Adults Only All Inclusive resort.  I'm sure drinking and napping will be in the plans as well :)

Don Lucas cigars has a free tour with free pickup and sells legit CC's. It is a toursit trap but you do get a free cigar, get to watch a roller and taste rum and chocolate. I thought it was worth it in the end.

All of the other CC's I saw in the few resorts near me we're fake.

How are the Dominican cigars compared to CC's?  I've heard the tobacco can be of the same quality.

There are some great Dominicans it's just a very different style than Cuban. La for Dominicana and Fuente are some of the top brands that come to mind.

The only problem is that most the factories are in a tax free zone and this tax free zone cannot have tourists. The Dominican cigars you buy on the island might actually be exported, then imported back in to the country. So it turns out that Dominican cigars sold in the Dominican are no cheaper than buying in the US.

Based upon the path of Irma,  and where Punta Cana is in the DR,   I would call and see if you can't reschedule,   or cancell your trip and find an alternate destination.

The DR doesn't have the greatest infrastructure,  and it looks like DR,  and esp.  NE--Punta Cana--is in line for a direct hit.    I was in Punta Cana last year.  Great place,  but it's likely to get hit hard,   and I would not want to be there in the aftermath.
