Popular Post Fuzz Posted August 25, 2017 Popular Post Posted August 25, 2017 Welcome to Sydney, Australia! You've probably just flown in on the longest bloody flight of your life, because let's face it, Australia is the furthest place you can get from anywhere! And I'll bet you'll be wanting to get some rest before your day of exploring, right? First you need to get through Immigration.... And the less we talk about the Customs "inspections" the better. You may be a bit over on your duty free limit. Great! You're now officially in Australia! Time to leave the airport... So where to begin? Let's officially start your Sydney tour with sunrise at Bondi Beach. So what's for breakfast? A healthy Pittaya bowl from Speedo's Cafe? Or perhaps something a bit more traditional like a big breakfast at Trio Cafe? Time to work off that meal with a stroll on the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk. You'll go right past historical Waverley Cemetery on your walk. Yep, that's right. Some of the best views in Sydney are for the dead. Whoever owns that tomb on the cliff has a fantastic view... if only they were still alive to enjoy it. Time to head off into the city for some sightseeing and brunch! Please note, you are not stuck in traffic... you are traffic. You've made it into the city and your first stop is Circular Quay to see the world famous Sydney Opera House! Admit it, it does look like a dish rack. Take a stroll down Circular Quay and take in the view of the Harbour Bridge (yes, yes, it does look like a clothes hanger). 5
Popular Post Fuzz Posted August 25, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted August 25, 2017 Work your way from Circular Quay through The Rocks and enjoy markets (The Rocks Markets are held on Fri, Sat, Sun). Make your way through the CBD to King St Wharf and Darling Harbour... sorry about the road works. We're getting a light rail network (eventually) to make getting around easier. Stop off at Coffee Box Espresso for a cup of coffee and their bacon, egg and truffle roll. Stroll around till lunch, then head off for a seafood platter at Blue Fish Restaurant or Cyren Restaurant & Bar Blue Fish Cyren You should be well stuffed by now, but hopefully not overly stuffed to take in a cruise of the harbour. Depending on the cruise company, you can get hop on/off cruises (really good if you are here in the summer, as our days are long!). If you have the time, hop off and enjoy Taronga Zoo. I mean, what can be better than a zoo with a view of Sydney Harbour? Even the koalas can't believe how good they got it! It's getting late now, so we'd better start making plans for dinner. 5
Popular Post Fuzz Posted August 25, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted August 25, 2017 This being Sydney, we have countless different cuisines to choose from. Want a steak? Meat & Wine Co at Barangaroo. Got a hankering for Malaysian food? Mamak in Chinatown.Have an odd craving for vegetarian/vegan food? Bodhi Restaurant near St Mary's Cathedral (it is surprisingly good). But for me (and a few of the other Sydney FOH crew), one of our favourite restaurants is the Green Peppercorn (Thai/Lao) in the Civic Hotel on Pitt St. Banana Flower Salad Ox Tongue Pork Knuckle One of the reasons we like this place... it has a bar that is classified as outdoors, but is under cover! And they have no problem with cigar smoking! Double bonus!! Time for a little nightlife! Head back over to Circular Quay and head on down to the Opera Bar. Kick back, enjoy a few cocktails, and listen to the live music. Winter Sour, Sydney Sling, Lady Lavender (L to R) Getting a bit late, but we're not finished yet! Head on over to the Naval Yard at Woolloomooloo to see a Sydney icon... Harry's Cafe De Wheels! Patronized by everyone from celebs, visiting dignitaries, locals and the occasional drunk tourist (okay, maybe more than occasional), Harry's has been serving Sydney's late night hungry masses for over 70 years (the original pie cart is now in the Powerhouse Museum). A must have here is the Tiger Pie. A meat pie, topped with mash potatoes, mushy peas and gravy! And so ends your tour of Sydney... or is it? Not yet!!! There is one more place to go, even though it is well past midnight and you'd rather go to bed. We now take you to Chinatown for a late night supper at Golden Century Seafood Restaurant (open till 4am). And what is for supper? Their iconic Pipis in XO Sauce! The sauce is made in house and is a closely guarded secret. The pipis are coated in the thick spicy sauce, and beneath is a layer of fried vermicelli, which soaks up the delicious sauce. If you're still functional by this point, good on ya! If not, for shame! Time to call that Uber and get back to your hotel.... Aw geez! Does this traffic ever end?! 6
JohnS Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 Great work, Fuzz! You can do this all in one day if you are Malcolm Turnbull, the current Prime Minister of Australia, and you have cordoned off traffic barracading. Otherwise, normal visitors to Sydney, give yourself another day or two while you sit in traffic and listen to our local overpaid radio 'shock jocks'!

I managed to do something similar to this in one day when a friend from the States came over for a visit. Mind you, we did start at 6am, and didn't get back to her hotel until 5am the next morning. No dawdling at all. 1
