Thanks all for the thoughts.

More thinking I am overwhelming my humidor space with aged crap that will never be more than crap.... But maybe those will change a bit with time...? Not something that keeps me up at night, but just a question to hear what y'all think about it. Thanks again.

Don't lose hope on those SP!

Don't get me wrong - I like them as a change of pace. Great creamy quality to the profile and a unique woody note - I don't typically care for overly woody cigars (young HdM Epi, for example), but these are crazy enough to be interesting.

Thing is, I'm slowly smoking through a '13 box and they just don't strike me as ones that will develop much from aging.

Generally, crap in, crap out. Some cigars are simply awful when young. By the time most are 3-4 years from box date, you can kind of tell what they may become.

For me, hope always springs eternal.  I've had some cheap-and-crappy that for some damn reason became excellent.  And when they don't improve, I don't mind burning them up on an ordinary day with no need for cosmic rehab.  Life's not that short.  Hell, smoking the older ho-hum/kinda crappy ones makes the next great one even greater IMO.

I've gotten cautious with throwing out cigars in the 1-10 year zone.  I've smoked enough that came back from the dead that it convinces me about the existence of the existence of these odd flat (vacuum) periods.  If I test a cigar from a 4 or 5 year old box and it's dull, I don't curse the whole box but rather wrap it back up (ziplocks) and put it on the bottom for more sleep.

Now so far, in my limited experience, if a 10 year old box is flat then it's never coming back.  At least so far.  I have a couple of those that I've put back to rest and will retry in 5 or 10 years.  Sheesh I'm gonna have to write myself notes to remember! :cigar:
