Popular Post mgcrunch
This is the "stay inside the District" tour. There are loads of things to do outside of DC borders [e.g. visit the orchard, eat the area's best pho, see Arlington Cemetery, etc, this is a DC exclusive day.] #1. US Capitol First stop is the US Capitol. They have formal tours, taking about 45 minutes, and they're conveniently available in the early morning. Don't stress, we're going to breakfast next. Fun fact, DC is split into quadrants and the US Capitol building is at the center. On an underground level, there is a compass marking the exact spot. #2. Eastern Market. Eight blocks away is Eastern Market. We'll walk down Pennsylvania Ave SE, window shopping and enjoying the day. There was a large fire in Eastern Market a few years back, but thankfully it's restored and we can grab lunch at The Market Lunch and some supplies for dinner later. While The Market Lunch is great [we'll eat pancakes and eggs, etc], we're also going to shop for steaks and veg for our dinner later. #3. Back Home. Riding DC metro, we head home. Set the bags down, steak in the fridge, wash up, grab some cigars for later, and we're out the door. This is important: remember to uncork the magnum of wine for dinner later. #4. Art on the National Mall. Majority of them are free in DC. One of my favorites is the National Gallery of Art. Lichtenstein, Pollock, Matisse, Picasso, Degas, Bernini, Titan, etc, it is tremendous. #5. Fiola for Lunch Conveniently located near the NGA and cigar friendly [so I am advised, have not had the pleasure myself.] So a terrific Italian meal then a cigar, one Michelin star to boot. #6. National Air and Space. This is one of the most visit museums in the world, apparently combating Louvre for the top spot. I'm not a guy that's into aviation but even this blew me away. #7. Rooftop steaks. We broke the budget with Fiola. Time to bring some economy back to our lives. Back home to set up. Decant wine. Set table. Get to grilling. Enjoy the sunset. #8. Late night tour of the monuments, White House, etc. Without a doubt, my favorite way to see DC. White House at night. View from Virgnia of Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, US Capitol, etc. World War II Memorial This will include a trip to The Kennedy Center. Hall of Flag is terrific, but the rooftop view [free] is terrific. That's it, we're done!
alloy
Mgcrunch, Thanks for the site seeing. My 50 years on the Md. side (montgomery cnty.) I've been to and seen these wonderful sites. Just Awesome. But have they added a new wing to the Air and Space Museum? I haven't been there in five years but that looks like the site out at Dulles. You're right, great eye! I Googled pics for Air and Space, used whatever came up. There's no Blackbird in DC. Definitely the Dulles location. If you are by The White House during business hours [and if you enjoy NC cigars] check out Drapers. Historic cigar shop. Morton's is also a nice place to have a steak and a cigar. Truth be told, I don't travel much in the DMV [DC, Maryland, Virginia area.] Will you be renting a car? This opens up options. The few tidbits I do know: the water taxi is enjoyable. Consider taking it to Old Town Alexandria - nice place to walk around, shop, music [jazz/live place that allows cigars], dinner, etc. MGM Casino is all the rage. Not sure if the lines have died down yet The Awakening [giant iron sculpture] was moved from DC to National Harbor few years back. Check that out. Ferris wheel - if that's your thing @Nguneer or @Mahstah may be of better guidance!

Looks like an older photo of the Mall location. You can see Jefferson Drive out the windows and the Milestones of Flight Hall is the Entrance to the Air and Space building . cfc1016
Monuments at night is great. I park by Einstein and take the pup for a cruise on the mall pretty frequently. Don;t have to deal with as many tourists that way. It's nice.
