zyxwvu44 Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 Check out Wilk Watch Company here: http://wilkwatchworks.com/ . A small brand out of Canada but they make beautiful pieces!
cookj1 Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 There are so many options under $500, it's not funny. There are expensive crap Swiss watches, to cheap but great Japanese watches, and everything in between. Asking for a watch suggestion is like asking for a cigar suggestion. The fun is finding the right one for you. I have loads of watches: expensive and cheap. You know the two I have a lot of satisfaction with? Two that I found on Kickstarter. It's not for me to suggest what you should buy, but consider the fulfillment of helping someone's project come to fruition and being part of that. It's a bit of a marketing ploy, but almost all of them offer "Founders Edition" options for people willing to get in early. A simple "watch" search will net dozens of results and there's bound to be something that catches your eye. ...certainly more of a topic for discussion than some of my multi-tens-of-$$ Swissies. ...just a suggestion. Good luck with your watch hunt. That's half the fun.
torsion Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 This thread could be the fuel to fire for me-been searching for the SARB065 and I've not worn a watch in probably over 20 years!!!??
kuma Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 all good watches on this thread. One of my fav.'s is made in Denmark and it is called "Skagen". Great bang for the buck. Ultra thin and light made of Titanium. Right now the one I'm wearing is a black one w/black metal band and dark blue face. Slim Japan Quartz Mov't. Super Hardened Mineral Crystal. Just another option. Good luck.
mygar Posted August 24, 2017 Author Posted August 24, 2017 Thanks for all the help folks. I have been learning more about watches... reading about movements, etc. I ended up purchasing a Oris Artelier Automatic Silver Dial Brown Leather Men's Watch 733-7670-4071LS. With the sale, reward points, and no shipping and tax.. mangaged to get it for 400. Seems like a good deal and i like the look of it. Calibre 733 movement i guess is a modified Sellita SW-220. So not in house movememt... but that can be a whole another thread discussion. The number of brands models etc is mind boggling... so hope i did ok for my first purchase

Oris then go in and make a few more in-house adjustments. In-house movements are not necessarily better than mass-produced movements, and vice-versa.

Suposedly Oris modifies the sw200 to thier specs which improves accuracy. One modification i guess is the addition of a thicker spring. And in house movement is more than my budget ha. Then the topic of asking what qualifies as an in house movement.... as all parts are not made in house.

Their heritage is interesting and like the look of the date day models... i like the vintage style But for first watch, wanted to stay on budget. I want to learn more before i spend too much
