Popular Post Corylax18 Posted August 6, 2017 Popular Post Posted August 6, 2017 That's not an article. Its a poorly veiled advertisement for double banded dollar gobblers. The formula for winning an HSA man of the year award is pretty clear....... 7
LLC Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Good enough article but mostly light fluff aimed at the people who would read the magazine; understandingly so. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
PapaDisco Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 Ha ha . . . nice suit though, and plenty of pinky rings for the next bar fight! 3
dominattorney Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 Does anyone here smoke cigars on purpose while wearing a suit? I wear suits every day and try to change out of them if at all possible before lighting up. Not only does it appear to me as pretentious, but I don't need my jacket smelling like smoke and needing to be dry cleaned every day. 3
Doctorossi Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 I'm not interested in posing and being seen with a cigar. My only concern as regards smoking attire is ease of laundering. 2

You beat me to the pinky ring thing... This is your poster boy for modern Habanos cigars. All the power to them. I see myself in my videos, sometimes in a dew rag, sweat stained hat, shorts surrounded by tools and equipment dedicated to storing cigars and I see why I don't smoke these cigars. We have nothing in common! Somehow I cannot see this guy being honest about what he smokes. Maybe I am wrong... but I am going to agree with @Corylax18 on this one. This is a discussion of cigars as luxury items. Cigars are staples (IMHO). We are diametrically opposed. Every man (woman) who smokes deserves a great cigar. Great cigars should bridge the 'caste' system of the Cuban cigar trend. I suppose if you really understand the Cuban cigar, it still does. You have no better chance at getting a great cigar by spending more but articles such as this closely obscure that fact. They just prefer to stratify and build on old cigar prejudices and the defunct caste system! Horsepucky! -the Pig 5

Just seems to work out that way, and some venues are so damn smokey that I wish I had a smoking jacket to change into. It can take 3-4 days of airing out to make a wool suit serviceable again. Anyway, while Mr. Habanos 1990-whatever, can certainly qualify as a 'dandy' I wouldn't take his dressing up as any kind of a personal offense. He's likely just lookin' good for the picture or putting on a tie out of consideration for his fellow mates. We don't all have to slum it all the time and there's nothing wrong with upholding standards. I've been seen out in everything from greasy coveralls; searching for tractor parts, to black-tie heading to the opera and everything in between. I don't take offense at folks wearing whatever is appropriate to their mission for the day!
SirVantes Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Nick Foulkes is quite well known in the British "dandy/rake" circles. His sense of style is a little extreme for me...

I didn't mean to sound like I was calling you out. I just meant, if given the opportunity, would you not want to wear something else? You seemed to have answered that question in the affirmative. When I leave Court and want to come have a cigar at a lounge, I have a specific blazer that I put on for this purpose. If I have the opportunity, I put on a plain tailored tee shirt and wear that instead. Granted, I live in Colorado, so people are not as formal, but I've never been told that I don't fit in wearing a simple v neck tee and nice slacks.
99call Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 I cant stand entry level gourmand journalism. In short People that know very little, saying nothing, about a vast subject, that stands of nothing. His weekly/daily, might be better served under the header. "I'm a vacuous society dropout, this week I will tell you very little about.................."

To me it's never hard to suss out these slightly-educated articles, even when I know nothing about the topic myself. I guess I've never seen the appeal of magazines like GQ in the first place, so I just don't understand that audience.

Where in CO do you not get away with a v neck and slacks? I wear jeans, sneakers and a tee while smoking CCs at the Churchill in the Brown Palace.

I didn't have one, and they leant me a 52 extra short. I wear a 42 extra long. I was like, wouldn't this just look better without the jacket? Sorry, rules are rules, you idiot, is what they said. My business partner just got a membership at Churchills. How often are you there? I'm thinking of getting one myself once I start teaching at DU again this fall.

I don't hang around Churchills much, I stop in about once a month since it is one of the very few places in Denver to have a smoke and a good drink. I'm hoping the Denver Athletic Club goes through with their plan for a cigar room since I am member there, that would become my regular smoking spot of they do.
Toast & Taste Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 The real tragedy here is that someone actually reads GQ. Big Al 2

Rules are rules . . . Haven't been to the Brown Palace in years. There's a cigar lounge there?! Sounds like Denver has some decent spots, worthy of a thread in "Cigar Friendly Locations" so we have the list accessible for posterity.
