They were amazingly impossible to find until about late 1997 when slightly larger quantities began to be released....and they were still very rare as they got snapped up very quickly.

It seems like there are 100 variations and I've felt compelled recently to put some down for awhile just to see what all the hype is about My favorite size has always been the Fuente Fuente size - 5 5/8 x 46 if I recall correctly. I pick those up anytime I see them. Second favorite size is the Perfexcion X, which is a corona gorda....like 6.25 x 50. The Perfextion #2 (torp), Cheateu de la Fuente (churchill), and the Robusto X are also good choices. Never was a fan of the Petite Lancero or the #5....though a well aged Petite Lancero is damn good. If you see any Opus "A", those are fun to smoke while watching the Super Bowl or something. But whatever you buy of the "standard line", bury them away for at lease 3 years and you'll be rewarded.....5+ years and they get pretty special. Agree that there are too many Opuses (or Opi???) variations these days. Only other variation I have bought was the original release of the Angel's Share. These smoke fresh like the regular line Opus X with a bit of age on them. I feel no need to pursue the Lost City, Forbidden X, 20th Anni, etc,,,,,, 1
Customsfan Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 I always found them too pricey. I think Fuente makes a lot of great cigars for decent prices. I just think people forget about them.

I keep some Perfection no 4 and 5 around, but they do require several years down to my taste. They are incredibly strong, especially when compared to Havanas. 1
encephalization Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Not coincidence that the 20th Anniversary Editions were released this year To my knowledge, the first ones with the classic band were released in 1995. The 20th anniversary was in commemoration of the first to hit the open market.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk

I will say that I attended the very first CigarFamily Celebration hosted by the Newman/Fuente families in Tampa in the summer of 1997. At that event, Carlito gave all the attendees (and introduced the rest of the world) the Perfecxion X3 (or X to the 3rd power....aka The Power Ranger). Carlito said as they passed them out that these were the strongest Opus cigars to date and they had been working on getting the blend where he liked it for quite some time. The other sizes of Opus, though extremely hard to find, had been out for at least a year before I made that trip to Tampa. Also - correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the Opus X boxes have 1996 on them somewhere? Why the 20th Anni Opus have been released this year is a mystery to me.....
ethosan Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 AF has shown off 20th anniversary FFOX cigars and merchandise since late 2015, I recieved Blue band 20th last year, and my opus22 and opus6 boxes this year all have red/maroon 20th bands on the sticks. I remember halfwheel explained some sort of delay in 15, but i feel this years release is just cashing in on the fancy fuente fever.

RijkdeGooier Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 From my research it indeed seems that 1995 the first Opus X were produced. I also believe 1997 marked commercial availability on a larger scale.

Hollan and I were talking about you just the other day And yes, it seems that there were Opus available, in first the pyramid boxes and then the slide lid boxes, as early as '95. It was my understanding that these were for a select few, and not really publicly released until '97, when shops east of the Mississippi were allotted some. My boxes have 1992 on them, which I've always assumed referred to the planting of the rosado Dominican wrapper leaf. And re: the 20th possibly being late in release...wouldn't surprise me Yep!, you are correct....1992.....not 1996. I was trying to picture in my head what that year was printed on the box. And I think you are correct that the year represents the planting of the rosado wrappers. I'd love to see you guys again.....hopefully it will happen one day.
