El Presidente Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Last weekend we did the Robusto. This weekend we will do the mareva (ensure it is a mareva..42 gauge) That should be enough in terms of information/data we need. So...pick your Mareva/Petit Corona and let's go over the objectives again. __________________________________________________________________ This weekend, lets try a little experiment in order to gauge where we all sit in terms of how fast we smoke a cigar. This is not a contest....it is not how quickly you smoke it ....or how slowly (Marko Bilic will think I am cutting into his World Slow Smoking gig ) I am amazed at the different amount of time that cigar lovers take to get through the same cigar. So this weekend, pick a Cuban Mareva/Petit Corona (must be 42 gauge) if in doubt www.cubancigarwebsite.com is your friend) Time it. From lighting to just below the band or wherever you are comfortable in that region. Post a photo and your time. Into the draw for a little sampler drawn Tuesday ...do a review of the cigar at the same time....I will give you an extra ticket in the draw! Post your results (and review if you wish) on this thread. The word is that a PC takes 45 minutes on average. Let's put it to the test. Again.....you are doing this for science! Have a cracker weekend! Rob 2
HarveyBoulevard Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 I don't own a single one...guess I will be sitting this one out. Edit: I just remembered a lone box of PLPC that was stashed away!! Time to dig...
Islandboy Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Gee, I just smoked my only Siglo II yesterday...tasty little bugger that came from a contest sampler thanks to Rob & Crew How about I start timing a Siglo III when it gets down to proper length? 1
LLC Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Had a BPC earlier today so no pictures to enter the contest but it was almost 1.5 hours. Last one from that box and it was one of the best ones in the box. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Islandboy Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 10 minutes ago, Hutch said: Smoke time: 1 hour, 15 minutes. Surprised me...expected sub 1 hour. Yeah, I wish I timed my Sig II yesterday....it sure seemed like it lasted a fair bit longer than the 65 minute robusto last week.
Popular Post BellevilleMXZ Posted July 21, 2017 Popular Post Posted July 21, 2017 I Wasn't going to have one tonight, but hey its in the name of science right? MC #4 from 24:24 awhile ago. This one was by far the best so far, very good. 87 mins for this one, surprising....would have thought closer to an hr .. 7
HarveyBoulevard Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 PLPC Stored 63rh and 73f Smoked 40rh and 79f Total smoking time 41 minutes 4

dominattorney Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Bet I cam smoke it in 6 minutes and beat that ludicrous PSD6 time that guy posted the other day. 1
Popular Post Akela3rd Posted July 21, 2017 Popular Post Posted July 21, 2017 Rafael Gonzales PC (UTE OCT 15)1634 to 1716 = 47 minsI really enjoyed this cigar - end of a good working week, sun shining, family otherwise occupied so no interruptions. Surprisingly sweet on the cold draw, mild yet flavoursome on lighting. Cocoa and cream to start, some sort of berry in there too, perfect white ash and a perfect burn. Both of these stayed throughout which made for one of those satisfying cigars we all look for. Touches of pepper developed in the start of the second third, nothing too overpowering and a nice balance to the creamy smoke. Strength built up to a solid medium into the final third, pepper heightened, dark chocolate rather then cocoa (I'm amazed I noticed this, I'm getting me educateded). And a lovely little bit of caramel. All on all, a very good cigar. Thunder & Lightening '75-'15 10
Diabolicalpherpher Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 2010 montecristo #4 no box code Cold draw: Hay with slight barnyard Start 11:31am 1st third: mocha and slight wood 2nd third: mocha and woody notes left by on the palate Last third: cocoa dominates Stop 12:24 Time 53 minutes 2
Scotty Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 I am having an Upmann weekend so thought I would commence with a Petit Corona anyway. Sat outside under the patio umbrella is the rain was not ideal, but better than depriving myself. Surprisingly, it took me 55 minutes to smoke, wonky due to the wet, but was as delicious as every other PC of Upmann I have had. Fortunately our new Summer House is being delivered on Monday, which I shall be turning into my backyard pub/smoking room........fingers crossed, so the rain can go to hell. 4
Diabolicalpherpher Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Siglo II from our host. MEL OCT16 figure I up the sample number... for science... Cold draw: Hay Start: 12:44 First third: coffee and honey Second third: grass and coffee, hint of sweetness. Last third: honey makes a come back! Oh my! Finish: 1:37 Time: 53 minutes (Wow standard deviation of 0 from my monte#4 as the other sample) I had one a month or two ago from the same box for the ode to 42 gauge and it's noticeably getting better. The honey flavor is intensifying while the youngness is fading quite a bit from the last one. 4
cardinalfan85 Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 This was a fantastic Siglo II from late 2015. It had a persistent perfumy floral note along with milk chocolate and roasted nuts. Just lovely. Paired with a hoppy Michigan pilsner. At 74 minutes this took longer than the robusto from last weekend. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 3
Popular Post zeedubbya Posted July 21, 2017 Popular Post Posted July 21, 2017 I too smoked a Siglo 2 today. Lit at 2:25 and tossed it below at 3:29 per picture time stamp. So 1 hour and 4 minutes. Was at the local county fair with my 5 year old and my Dad. There's only one reason I go every year (well my 5 year old too) and it's the Cattle Feeders and Pork Producers. Hard to decide between smoked pulled pork nachos or smoked Ribeye sandwich. This year I went with smoked Ribeye. So good. They smoke the whole Ribs out back of the building and serve them thinly sliced with juice and onions up front. If any of you smokers (meat that is) have never done this do it. It's an incredible sandwich--really. Oh and the cigar. This Siglo 2 was one of the ones I find occasionally which is a full on assault. It was very strong and full. Almost seems like this over-powers the flavors. The sweet citrus, creamy coffee and toasted tobacco is there it's just almost overpowered by the strength of the cigar. I don't know if this is due to too much ligero or whatever in the blend, but it puts the strength right up there front and center. Was enjoyable enough, but I like these a lot better when they're dialed down a bit. This is my favorite PC right now and most likely my favorite cigar right now. 9
Popular Post Bahnofstrasse Posted July 21, 2017 Popular Post Posted July 21, 2017 Dip 4 June 07Have not tried one of these in a while. Picked them up in a small Cigar shop in the Town of Raperswil at the southern end of Lake Zürich. You never know what you might find when you peruse these Shops across Europe. Paired w a nice cold Bitburger...Bitte ein Bit! 1st ThirdA bit of a loose draw so I will have to take it a bit easy with this. Woodsy, dry forest, occasional flicker of caramel corn. Smoke is aromatic.2nd ThirdNot much has changed. Has a predominant, wood, earth, tobacco, profile. Burn has been great. Draw could be a bit more restrictive to my liking. Final ThirdHas stayed the same throughout. Nothing evolved. Nice Cigar, but nothing special flavor wise. Finish52 minutes and change 8
dvickery Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 My size of smoke . '14 monty#4 purchased in Havana in may'14 as a 5pack . Assuming (as I do) that 5packs age faster than anything but singles ... time to try . Youngish but nice ... tasted like tobacco burning . Balance not there yet with strength overpowering flavours . A good smoke . smoking time was 55:27 derrek 4
mkz Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Diplomaticos #4 EMA FEB 08 Sad to say I'm down to my last boxes on these... ☹️ Feels a bit underfilled with a very loose draw. 1/3 Strong start. Loads of smoke with pepper, cream and leather. 2/3 Pepper is almost gone. Just luscious waves of creamy leather and tobacco. 3/3 Same as before. Just keeps on going. Dip #4 is the guy that always shows up at work in time. Works hard all day and checks out punctual. A steady performer without any big surprises. Mr. Reliable. Smoking time: 42 min 1
dicko Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Rafael gonzalaz petit corona: SOM MAR 16Total time 57 minutes. Salt, earth, smoke, tobacco. Usually get coffee cream from these but not so much today. 89 score.Raining today outside so that could have been a factor.Smoking my first brisket (points only, 2 small pieces) today. 3 and a half hours in getting close to done.Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk 3
Popular Post toto Posted July 22, 2017 Popular Post Posted July 22, 2017 First time posting a review in FOH. In HK for the next 2 weeks, taking advantage of humid and warm days enjoying an afternoon PLPC. 14' PLPC (Don't have box code as I'm traveling) 51 mins 52 sec Not a fast start but plenty of smoke 1st third - toasted tobacco, hay, a bit of dark sweetness, medium 2nd third - Medium full, a bit of slight dark molasses sweetness, 3rd third - Medium full, mouth feel starting to have a bit of harshness near the end, more toasted tobacco, a hint of old school cuban taste, no change in slight molasses sweetness, turned a bit hot at the end. Pretty typical PLPC flavor for me, need a bit more resting time so the caramel can develop. 6
Popular Post Jose_A_Rodriguez Posted July 22, 2017 Popular Post Posted July 22, 2017 EML MAY 14 Time: 49:34 First 3rd:Molasses, vanilla, cream coffee and cedar notes. What a start. Loving the oaky finish.Middle 3rd:Started losing its burn at the beginning of this third and in my unsuccessful attempt to recover it without losing the ash, I overwhelmed the cigar with unwanted smoke from ash and also overheated it. I should have known better. Harshness started to overshadow the original sweetness and creaminess. By the midpoint, both had completely faded. MEA CULPA!!!Final third:From this point forward, bitter coffee started to dominate and cigar never recovered. Usually, I would have put it down, but I was determined to avoid skewing the timing stats. To be fair, I'll leave it UNRATED. Promising start, but I ultimately ruined it. I'll smoke another petit corona over the weekend and replace this entry. 5
Popular Post soutso Posted July 22, 2017 Popular Post Posted July 22, 2017 Rafael Gonzalez PC - 48 minutes I smoked this on the way home from work. My treat after a long day. The wrapper was light and smooth And the cigar's construction was excellent. Very consistent from top to bottom. You may notice from the pics below that the cigar always had that pencil tip finish once the ash fell. This is always a good sign for me. Incidentally, the ash was quite white. The first third was all vanilla with that Cuban 'twang' as a background. Lovely. The cigar then evolved into a white pepper type of spice. Always remaining interesting and the 'twang' I described in the first third was still everpresent. The final third was less pepper and more savoury spice in flavour. The cigar at all stages was smooth in the retrohale. I hold the H Upmann PC as my no.1 favourite PC and the RGPC a close second. I pray that they keep these going forever. Finally I'd like to add that these have been a consistent performer. They need more time acclimatising than most but if you're patient you're rewarded. Thanks for reading! 5
