Auspaul Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Am I right in assuming now that I could bring in a 3 pack of cigars that weigh 25 grams and another 3 pack that is opened and my wallet would not be raped. http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Ente/Brin/Can-I-bring-it-back/Can-I-Bring-It-Back-Duty-Free/Can-I-Bring-Tobacco-or-Cigarettes-Back
Fuzz Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Nope. They will weigh all cigars if you declare and have more than 25g of tobacco. 1
gweilgi Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 I always declare everything. My experience with Aussie Customs has been generally quite positive. The past few trips, I was only assessed and charged import duties when bringing in boxes. When I come in with only my traveldor of mixed singles, they have in the past looked at it and waved me through without making me pay. Given that I usually travel with 30-50 cigars of varying vitals, I reckon that's mighty generous of them. 2
Duxnutz Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Such a first world country this one. You could tell the 50g rule was onerous on the Border staff, this is gonna exacerbate it. I wonder when they'll come for duty free liquor?

Auspaul Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 Yeah 25 grams thats why I could not understand the wording one unopen packet of up to 25 cigarettes (or the equivalent of 25 grams of tobacco products), and one open packet of cigarettes. Sounds like you could still bring in close to 50 but then it goes on about taxing over 25grams

They are just as bad in the USA Most of them obviously hate their job and take it out on their passengers. Here, they don't bother to weigh them , they just steal them. Off topic but I had a "bag check" in the CLT airport 3 years ago They searched one small carry on in front of me and took my other bag back behind a small screen. When I got to Montreal, I was missing an expensive alligator belt. my bag of cigars, and a tie. So I had to go out and buy another tie prior to a 10am meeting the next morning not to mention paying outrageous prices for replacement smokes. When I got back to the states I contacted my congressional rep to file a complaint I was informed that there were 1800 other complaints in front of mine. Nice 1
