I usually smoke a Monte 5, Divinos or HUHC on my way to Cub Scouts on a Wednesday evening but this week I had a RGPC, got through half of it and finished it on the walk home.

Depends on whom you ask.  If you ask a Liberal/NannyStater, they will say nowhere.  You are killing yourself and your second hand smoke, no matter how diffuse, is killing everyone else.  If you ask me

Zino lost me at “Don’t smoke more than half the cigar”.

Personally, I like to be in a pretty deep relaxed state when I enjoy a cigar, so I keep my exercise routine and cigar smoking completely separated. But there’s a guy who walks his dog every day on the

I've got a Zino Platinum Double Grande at home that's about a foot long - maybe that's what he was thinking about...

Don't know about walking but have seen a picture of Arnold Schwarzenegger smoking a cigar while riding a bike

Well, @stogieluver, I'm a social policy liberal (for the most part) and indeed I wouldn't think to smoke cigars in a family neighborhood while walking.  Not for the reasons you're thinking of, though, but instead out of respect of social norms in my area, on two fronts.  First, the aroma isn't generally appealing to others, and it tends to travel a fair bit.  Second, I don't think aggravating our neighbors and fellow citizens does us (as an interest group) any good whatsoever.  I would rather win the long game, in a gentlemanly fashion, than make people angry just because I can.

This, 1000x this.  I, too, am liberal (or downright communist by the cigar community's standards), but that has nothing to do with this, in my opinion.  I know I have the right to smoke cigars while walking through my neighborhood, but I also know some of my neighbors probably wouldn't care for it.  I think the gentlemanly approach is to do everything within reason to accommodate people who don't wish to be exposed to my cigar smoke.  Courtesy and respect still hold a place in society.  That's not to say the OP or anyone else who smokes on the street or sidewalk is being discourteous.  Different standards certainly apply in different places.  But in my neighborhood, I'd consider it improper.  So I don't do it.

And to echo your second point, I feel like my neighbors are much more likely to support bans and things of that nature if they're exposed to my cigar smoke, than they would be if they never had to see, breathe or smell it.  Fighting them would seem like a pretty clear case of perhaps winning a battle but losing the war.  I know some people here feel that if we don't exercise and regularly defend our rights, we'll lose them.  And there may be some truth to that.  But I don't view my neighbors as nefarious people who are out to get me.  They're mostly reasonable people who don't care what I do, as long as it doesn't affect them.  I don't see any reason to take the fight to them if I can easily accommodate them and peacefully coexist.

I prefer to enjoy a cigar while seated most of the time.  Though I have taken a cigar for a walk now and then.  Many times on a beach in Mexico, a walk through a park or walking home from home.  I have no qualms about who may be upset.   I don't bitch about having to walk behind a cigarette smoker or having to breathe in car exhaust, so I have no issues with lighting up a cigar.

Smoke 'em whenever you have the opportunity. I smoke cigars when I play golf, when I push-mow my yard , when I wash the car and when I take walks. Now, the cigars I smoke during those activities are not my "best" cigars, but they're not dog-rockets either. I save my "best" for when I'm able to sit back and focus on the cigar. But IMO, there's nothing wrong with smoking a cigar on a walk.

We smoke cigars anywhere and everywhere the activity is allowed and the timing is right. We don't smoke if we think we will make the place offend anyone with cigar smoke. We always ask, "Is it ok if we smoke a couple of cigars?" if it is not our place and others are there.

Not a big deal. And we always have a couple of extra if someone wants to join us to make the experience better.

I tend to not smoke in public, so if it is between going out or staying in, I typically choose the latter. Where, when and what I smoke all depends on what I'm doing. I chose the cigar for the task. If I'm watering the lawn or cutting the grass, I'll smoke something that is less expensive, short, flavorful but not too strong. If I'm walking around a lake or a golf course, I'll smoke something big, long and mild. If I'm reading a book, I'll smoke something more complex that I can contemplate while reading. If I'm playing cards with my friends, I'll go long and thin. And if I'm out in the shed in the middle of winter with my heater on, I'll grab something short and tasty.

Hmmmm another wife with rules for the husband! Shocking!

If you enjoy a cigar on the walk then have at it. I could care less about others opinions. If I want a cigar I have a cigar. But like Twain says....I smoke them in moderation..only one cigar at a time ;-)

when I smoke in public I take the band off. For no other reason except that I don't feel like having a conversation about where, why or whatever relating to my Cuban .

Actually I'm a bit perplexed that a wife's opinion would be considered in regards what a man does on a walk,  - unless walks are limited to your living room.

Also, the criticism is based on appearances, and is even less worthy of attention. IMO, if you like to smoke while walking, do it. As long as you don't stop & blow smoke in people's faces, or do so on their property , you violate no one else's natural rights by doing so.

Smoking a cigar on the sidewalk does not exude class, but I don't see anything wrong with it.  In my city (Boston) you can't smoke outside anywhere on public property.  I feel that is absurd, but since tobacco smoke is so dangerous; even being 100's of yards away outside puts the community at risk.

At least once or twice a week I smoke a cigar while walking the dogs through our neighborhood. The dogs usually get walked right before bed. This is after dinner, the dishes are done, preparations have been made for the next day and the wife has gotten some of that "quality time" she is always talking about. Thus, it's usually after 9:30PM and closer to 10 when I light up. Our walk is about 25 minutes and I'll finish the cigar on the patio when I return. I almost never see another soul. Occasionally I see a retired gentleman walking his dogs and drinking a beer. From time to time I also smell someone smoking a cigar in their yard. Many times I've wanted to stop and ask what they are burning. So long as you aren't at the playground during normal hours, I don't think most people really care.

On another note, one of my fondest memories happened during a 10 hour lay over in Paris en route to Namibia. My father, brother and I had a nice long lunch at Le Comptoir and proceeded to have a leisurely stroll back through the streets and across the river while enjoying an after meal cigar.

I thought we lived in a world that idolizes tolerance.

<_< Hmmmm...

... or is that just when it fits one's agenda?

Everyone lives in different neighborhoods, I live in the burbs, but when I go for a walk I find there are often quite a few kids and families out and about.

HOWEVER...I just don't take puffs when there's kids or other pedestrians in my immediate vicinity.  I don't care if they like the smell or not, I'm more concerned with not making anyone breathe my secondhand smoke against their will.  I've never gotten any complaints from anyone, but I do make a point of being courteous.

When we live in a society where one cannot feel comfortable smoking a cigar in the open air, political correctness has run amok.

You're being courteous and cognizant of the people around you, and you have the self-awareness to know that the smoke can bother people.  I'd say you're doing it right.

I'd quibble with your last line a bit, because I think there's more nuance to the issue, but I certainly understand the sentiment.

Good morning from open air Ontario, where a lovely drive from Toronto can suddenly fill with farmland cow manure. They cover fields for fertilizer, sometimes with sheep shit too.

My lovely country tour, costing time and fuel, with my honey, Mr Beaver.

And then a run over skunk too. Peee-yooofff!

But mmmmmmmmm... the smell of a Cuban cigar. Ahhhhhh.

There's nuance to every issue, in fact, I wish people would acknowledge how gray our world is instead of living in the black and white so much.  The polarization of society has gotten out of control, to the point I find that I can't have a meaningful conversation about many topics with people on both ends of the political spectrum, because so many people are hardened in their views that they can't even have pleasant discourse with people from different viewpoints.

+1.  We've moved from the golden mean, to just plain mean.

To clarify: my darling wife's main objection is that she feels smoking (anything) on the street isn't particularly classy.

Not sure of my take on that aspect. but I don't smoke while walking, doing yard work, etc. Not due to any sort of etiquette, but simply because I don't really enjoy it.

That's the thing - I do. I find it very hard to just sit and smoke, I usually have to be doing something even if it's just reading. Bike/car maintenance, gardening, DIY, or walking somewhere are all favourite times for a cigar. And, I'll choose the cigar to go with the task at hand. A Monte 2 gives plenty of time for a good bike hub rebuild and makes the job much more pleasant for example.
