clutch5150 Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Saw another thread from the Prez where it was reported Arnold S. was smoking a real one in his role as Mr. Freeze in Batman. Just last night, I was watching John Wick II and at the beginning it appears the Russian Mob dude was smoking a La Gloria Regional Edition. Any other movies where real Cubans seemed to be lit up? 2
Notsocleaver Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Blackhawk Down has the Bolivar belicoso scene, but I'm not sure they are actual BBFs in the scene. 3
toto Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 If memory serves me right, "Barney's Version". Lots of Monte 1s
polarbear Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Charlie Wilsons war saw the cast smoking Monte 2's in the Middle East The Cuban baddie in Bad Boys 2 was smoking Cohibas Again, not sure if they were real though

Ken Gargett Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 i might be wrong with the movie - i think it was one of the sequels to dirty dancing (as if the world needed that) but i might be wrong. it was set in cuba on the very eve of the revolution, and i think the father of one of the dancers is happily puffing away. i'm pretty sure it was one of the early limited edition cigars (can't recall which one). i remember the double band. i also do remember being somewhat surprised, given when the film is set - a few years before we ever saw a LE.
Puros Y Vino Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 I think in Wall St Gordon Gecko was smoking a Davidoff and in the sequel he lit up a CGR or a Cohiba EL of some sort.
Colt45 Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Jordi Molla and Peter Stormare smoke Cohiba in Bad Boys 2. I've always assumed they were props, but they do have Cuban Cohiba looking bands. Interestingly (or not), Stormare is the cigar smoking mobster in John Wick 2......
garbandz Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Apocalypse Now.........boxes of Montes in the briefing trailer. 2
GrouchoMarx Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 How did you determine that the cigar was a "real" cuban? 2
kalibratecuba Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 If memory serves me right, "Barney's Version". Lots of Monte 1sI haven't seen the movie, but the book discusses Cuban cigars heavily. Was the movie any good?Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

jerrybrowne Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Paul Newman in "The Hudsucker Proxy" had a classic scene involving a Monte #2.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If it's the window jumping scene you're referring to, the cigar Paul Newman picks up while saying "It's a pity to waste a whole Montecristo" appears to be a Churchill or possibly a Hermosos No. 3, but it's not a size Monte ever made post-Rev. Obviously, this movie's setting mostly mirrors that of a time prior to 1959 so I guess it's not a total mistake but it's certainly not a figurado vitola. 16 hours ago, mkz said: Expendables 3: Is that a Monte #2 in Arnold´s mouth? Probably--Arnold has said on multiple occasions he is a fan of Monte 2s. 18 hours ago, bundwallah said: I think in Wall St Gordon Gecko was smoking a Davidoff and in the sequel he lit up a CGR or a Cohiba EL of some sort. In the first Wall Street movie Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) gives Gecko a box of what I think he said were Davidoffs but I'm not sure. Have to re-watch that one. In the 2010 Wall Street movie Gecko is seen smoking what appears to be a Cohiba EL. This cigar is either an 04 Cohiba Sublimes or a 03 Cohiba DC, as this movie was filmed in 2009 and the 1966 wasn't yet released. The RG doesn't look that big, but it does look bigger than the 49 for the DC, so I'd go with it being a Sublimes. Not easy to get, even in 09, and would have been very pricey. A box of 25 sold for $3,310 in 2013, so they were probably already north of $2,000 by 2009, or about $80/stick.

I'm betting the stick came from Michael Douglas' personal collection and he sent the producers the bill for the entire box. 3
joeypots Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Patton. Looks like George C Scott is smoking a H Upman Monarch or Sir Winston a few times.

PigFish Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Big Daddy Politt enjoys what appear to be Montecristo #1s.
clutch5150 Posted July 9, 2017 Author Posted July 9, 2017 Charlie Wilson's War, (true story movie), Belly Dancer part (great part I might add) appears to be smoking Monte No. 2's. Also, great line in movie where Charlie's Press Secretary tells him the Washington Times is asking "if he's ever been to rehab"? She tells the Times, "he won't go to rehab because they won't serve whiskey there." LoL
clutch5150 Posted July 9, 2017 Author Posted July 9, 2017 Paul Walker (RIP, a great guy) the movie Into the Blue, toward the first half of the movie smoking Cohiba's of some kind.
PigFish Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 I like one of the opening scenes in King Kong (original) where there is a box of cigars on the table. The branding is covered. I can only imagine that it is Cuban. I also have tried to identify the box served from by the butler in Goldfinger. Looks like Bolivar cigars. -Piggy
