CeasarCzar Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Hi all Wanting to get some collective thoughts on the strategy for smoking the last half of shorter cigars. I feel like so much of the cigar is going to waste as I don't want to burn my fingers, so I end up laying the cigar down with probably an inch and a half left. So, whas your strategy on these cigars? Cheers

Popular Post HarveyBoulevard Posted June 26, 2017 Popular Post Posted June 26, 2017 I know this sounds silly...but buy longer cigars. I know what you mean and this is not sarcasm. I buy longer smokes so I don't end up burning nubs or a second stick. 5
Popular Post PigFish Posted June 26, 2017 Popular Post Posted June 26, 2017 When it is over it is over... Pick up the box, get and smoke another... I have done this many, many times. -Piggy 8
jerrybrowne Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I don't "nub" cigars of any length. Can't stand the tar buildup in the last 1.5 inches....
Popular Post Jeremy Festa Posted June 27, 2017 Popular Post Posted June 27, 2017 I rarely smoke past the 3 to 4 cm mark. If you finish wanting more, it is a good cigar. Leave it as such. 15

PigFish Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 1 hour ago, CeasarCzar said: So, whas your strategy on these cigars? Cheers ... and people are answering from their perspective. Some people don't nub cigars, while others use tools. Some of us indicated that our 'strategy' was something other than using a tool to nub a cigar! Some saw this question as one of guilt over 'what is left unsmoked.' There is then a mechanical side to getting more from a cigar, including 'manning' up your fingers or using tools! Then there is the perspective that it is okay to lay down a cigar past your comfort level in smoking it. One can therefore get a tool, or lose the guilt... Both solutions help the problem!!! -Piggy 1
NSXCIGAR Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Don't know if I'm necessarily in agreement with setting a great cigar down that early as a rule as I've just smoked far too many that were terrific right to the fingers. And I mean <1 cm. Where you want to stick the last cm into a pipe to finish it off. I've rarely had a cigar that was great but then dies at the last cm. Possibly due somewhat to the fact that a great cigar will have had great construction and burning allowing for smoking at a leisurely pace, thus reducing the tar and hotness toward the end. In fact, I am smoking an El Principe right now that is at about 1.5 cm and is just great. A 93 pointer all the way, and my fingers are about to burn. As mentioned, the Modus tool is a great option, but I believe the PerfecDraw is also suitable for spearing the cigar thus saves one the cost of having two separate tools. 1
earthson Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I can typically get them down to about 1 cm, but I've smoked hundreds of them, so I can accomplish great things with my mouth and hands (!) I'm not one for buying cigar contraptions, so have always relied on a toothpick to spear the nub and smoke marevas into oblivion.
RijkdeGooier Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Just smoke to where you feel comfortable. Nothing worse than smoking a cigar until well past it's turning point. When that point doesn't appear then by all means use whatever you need to keep enjoying the cigar? 4
CeasarCzar Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 Thanks everyone, great suggestions for the practical (tool) and the philosophical (smoke until satisfied and not a mm more). For the cigars that call for it, I'll start with a tooth pick and take it from there! Cheers
scap99 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I don't have a pic, so I'll try to describe it as best I can... When I want to nub a stick, and too lazy to go in and grab my Modus2 tool.... I will hold the head of the cigar with the tips of my thumb, index, and middle fingers while having the cherry face my palm. When you take a puff, your fingernails are against your lips. As the cigar gets shorter, I curl my fingers more, this allows me to get every last puff left in that stick. 2
TheLiquidGator Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I still have my trusty "roach clip" from years gone by, but I never use it on cigars. When a cigar gets "hot" to me it is time to put the cigar down. 2

2skinny Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Check out this guy. He does excellent work. Cigar rests, nub tools, and a casing for PerfecDraw. He's a great guy. I have bought several things from him. 2
